Wells Fargo, formerly Wachovia Dealer Services, has a piss poor customer service/collections department. I work for a world renown financial organization that deals with customer service and collections. Wells Fargo may be a wealthier company, but they do no belong in the same category as the fine company that I work for. Wells Fargo customer representatives treat their clients as statistics.
When I inquired about making a payment arrangement on a car loan that was two months from being paid off, I was treated rudely. When trying to make a reasonable payment agreement, "customer service" representatives used condescending phrases such as "this is an important payment," and "just because your car loan is almost paid off, doesn't mean that you don't have to pay." These and other comments, which insult my intelligence, are exactly the type of thing that I, as a customer service representative, could lose my job for saying to a client. Furthermore, working in collections, I know how the economic recession has affected hard working people and their families. One would think that Wells Fargo would understand that I, who am lucky to have a job in this economy, and who is willing to make a reasonable payment arrangement, would treat me with the same respect and dignity that I afford the people to whom I have pledged excellence in customer service. However, Wells Fargo has not done that. I plan on paying off my car loan in two months time, however, I must say, that Wells Fargo Auto Financing SHOULD BE AVOIDED, at all costs, that is, unless of course you like being treated like s**t.

Spread The Word

Wells also has this nasty habit of holding your payment check for several days before "posting" it as a payment to your account. This is how they surreptitiously collect more in finance charges from you, making borrowing from them a ripoff no matter what interest rate to which you agreed and signed.
If they insult you over the phone, note each instance. Better still, give them a taste of their own medicine and inform them that "this call is being recorded to ensure that you as a debt collector are following the law". You will be amazed at how fast they either change their tune.
To those of you who act so high and mighty and say that "the bank has this right and the bank has that right", don't lose sight of the fact that the bank does NOT have the right to lie, cheat, steal, bully, intimidate, harass, manipulate, or engage in fraud.
Wells Fargo Dealer Services does ALL of that.

Your in Collections?

That seems highly questionable that you actually work in collections, or at least is as totally "nice" as you try to make yourself out to be. Which brings into question as to what the entire story here is.
Because the idea of collections is to collect money, not a happy task by any means. So unless you are the one collection agent who is willing to not meet their quota, not get their commission, and take "heat" from management because everytime someone gives you their story you give them a break and don't push them(even in the least). It is hard to believe you work in collections.
I really wonder where you do collections at?
I also wonder what your "reasonable" payment arrangements were. You were two months from having it paid off, so we can figure that you had been making payments on-time up until that point. So what changed where you needed(not wanted) to make arrangements.
Sorry but there is no RipOff here, nor is there anything that shows any harrassment.

Hard to believe

Hard to imagine that you work in collections and would be insulted by such relatively mild remarks. I think it's asking a lot to expect any financial organization to welcome news of non-payment with cheerfulness and glee.
You seem to have the attitude that they should automatically accomodate your personal financial situation, no questions asked. It doesn't work that way. You are asking them to do you a favor. You should expect to take a little heat for not living up to your end of the contract.

Two sides to every story.

Or it could be that your idea of a reasonable repayment arrangement was unreasonable to the company that fronted you the money to buy the car.
They have employees and bills to pay as well. I don't suppose you would be too happy with your world renown financial organization if they could not pay you due to customers not paying what they are contracted to.
Just a thought.

1. to disturb persistently; torment, as with troubles or cares; bother continually; pester; persecute.
How can they harass you when you called them? You were insulted, but not harassed. It sounds like they were rude and maybe not willing to work with you on your payment, but you were definitely not ripped off.
You borrowed money from them. You agreed to pay a set amount every month. They want you to stick with it. It would be nice if they would work with you on an alternative payment, but they are not obligated to.
Ripped off? Nope
Harassed? Nope
