In July, we purchased a mobile home from Conseco with the intent of occupying it as our primary residence. The dealership that sold the mobile home (see my report on Metro Homes, Hillsboro, MO), who is an affiliate with Conseco, was dishonest in the information they gave us regarding the preparation of the site and the setting up of the home.

After more than a $2500 expense to prepare the site, when the Jefferson County inspector came for the final inspection, he refused to pass the mobile home because of damage to the underframe of the structure: bent I-beams and some outrigger pieces missing entirely.

This damage could not be seen while the home was setting on the lot of th dealership because of the slope of the property. That was in September, 2002. I started contacting Conseco then to have someone come out and look at the property, but since the home was sold "as is", I was told I was basically out of luck.

That is until,I involved the Missouri State Attorney General's office with the case. Only then did Conseco send one of their flunkies - Bob Begnaud - out to inspect the trailer. This was in December, after the home had set empty for 6 months and, my family and I had to find alternative housing in the meantime.

He basically said that they wouldn't fix the home or take it back and they would be pursuing a law suit against me for non-payment. My husband and I told them to take the trailer off our property and we have yet to hear anything from anyone at Conseco Finance.

I have finally had enough

AUTHOR: Sandy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2003

Well, I finally said enough is enough and probably hung myself royally. I sent Conseco a certified letter stating hardship and not being able to pay them at present. I have been working on this problem of their unfair billing practices for a year now. I have reported them to Better Business Bureaus, Attorney Generals, Rip off report, Bill O'Reilly, Channel 7 and anyone who would listen. I am still at present trying to find a lawyer if I need one when they come after me. I guess if noone can help I will have to file bankruptsy to get rid of them.
Wish me luck and any help anyone can give me or wants to take them on too, please let me know.
As far as I am concerned they should be in jail for all the unethical and cruel ways they have handled good people.

After 9 months of being out of the mobile home Conseco financed for me, Borrowed 52,000 payed 2 1/2 years still owed 61,000 they finaly came and got it like they said they would. Well guess what, they sold it to a mobile home mover for 16,000. They never ask me if I would give that much for it. Conseco is a big JOKE. I could not sleep at night or go out on the street during daylight hours if I worked for them!!!!!!!

Good vs. Evil ..working on idea's to hold Conseco accountable.

AUTHOR: Carol - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2003

Karen;

I am working on idea's to hold Conseco accountable. Fighting "big business" is almost impossible. Hireing a lawyer would be another "rip off" because they would milk us for expenses and big billable hours! Lawyers I do not trust! I feel our goverment should do their job. Contacting our attorney general and Division of Finance and reporting them is a start. Maybe some how, if we can get the news media interested we may be able to put pressure on Conseco and hold them accountable for distroying so many family lives.

I am not one of their stuped poor person as they seem to treat people. Every one deserves respect and it angers me reading all the stories that I have read on this web site.

Have you seen all the repo's at the dealerships? These people that had to give up their homes because of the evil ways of the dealerships and Conseco, are suffering while the dealerships and Conseco are profiting from them. It appears that the dealerships are buying up these repo home for pennies on the dollar from Conseco and selling for a large profit. Conseco profits by draging these people into court for the full amount of their loans plus all their outragious interest charges. No one should have to file bankrupsy because of a mobile home. They were intended to be affordable!

Do you know of others in our area?

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 11, 2003

Carol,

Thanks for the support. Do you know of others in our area that might want to band together in a class action lawsuit?

I still haven't heard anything from Conseco but have been searching the internet for new developments on their bankruptcy. The last I found was that Conseco was going to be up on the auction block February 28, 2003, but I haven't been able to find out anything about the outcome.

Conseco Finance was my biggest nightmare!

AUTHOR: Carol - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 05, 2003

Karen;

I totally agree with you! We bought a mobile home from Imperial Homes for our daughter and family. Imperial Homes did every deceptive move they could to sell us a mobile home. We have excellent credit but was turned down by Bank Americal, and Ford Finance. Then came Green Tree!
When I tried to get a reason from Bank of America and Ford Finance I was refused! I later found out that they had to give a reason! The mobile home dealership deceived us with the selling price. My daughter worked out the selling price with the dealership and after we went in and signed the papers we found out that they uped the selling price over $2,000 dollars. The dealer ship also did something to one of my pay checks which I have proof of. Any way after six years of dealing with Green Tree and Conseco's unfair "Daily Interest Rate we had to finally refinance our home and pay off Conseco. Out new lender is in California and our first payment was recieved by them in two days! Tell me how Conseco says it took them 7 to 10 days in the mail to receive our payment? It sat in their mail room to collect an extra $10.00 a day interest.

I too, am filing a complaint against Conseco for unfair interest charges, etc. This comes to thousands of dollars. They also took our extra principal payment and deducted it from their hidden accured interest. I have found out this is against the law. I can prove this by my cancelled checks and the payment history that we requested.

Don't give up! Fight them! They will not be under bankrupsy protection forever.

Carol
