The benefits plus program is bogus. For over a year, i paid into that program and when i needed it i was told i was ineligible. .
.
Let's begin. I was laid off from my job on August 19, 2008. I called Rent a Center the previous day and explained my situation to them. I was informed that i could apply for the benefits program to help with the payments but i had to pay in full through the following week. We went over the requirements, which I was told I met every single one from length of employment and account status. So i explained to the employee that i had one more paycheck coming after this one and i needed the help asap. We agreed that i would come in the store on that Friday. Well, here is where the BS begins. I went in used the last bit of my savings to pay what they wanted. the employee opened this black book for five minutes and then told me i was ineligible because i didn't file for unemployment. Well, i explained to him that i applied that morning but it is a process and it could take up to a month to get my final determination. He explained to me getting an answer from rent a center could take up to 30 days. So he said he would get me an extension until i got a notice from unemployment. About the third week in september i recieved my notice from unemployment about my eligibility. I called rent a center immediately and informed them. I spoke to an employee named Rob (by the way he is incompetant). He said i wasn't eligible because my account wasn't paid in full. Basically, i got nothing. Oh yeah, Rob was the one who got me the extension. I will admit i fought with them for a while over the merchandise which consisted of kitchen table, stove, tv and ps3. During this time, i was robbed. I don't live in the best part of beaver county. Not only did they take the ps3 but they took 1/2 my dvds, my psp, dvd player (which wasn't a $30 item) and several of my son's electronics but now they are trying to get me to return the item or they are taking me to court and suing me for theft. Explain to me how i can return something I don't have?

Also in august my original ps3 broke. The hard drive burned out. It took them almost a week to replace it and it would have been longer if i didn't call 9 stores to see if they had one(meanwhile they were expecting me to pay for it). I went to the Mckees Rocks store to pick it up myself because it would have been three more days waiting if they had to deliver it. a woman in there told me to send it back to sony which i did under rent a center's information which i also did. rent a center came to pick up the receipt as well as a payment for $120 and called me claiming there was no receipt and only $77. thats crap and guess who was the employee who picked up the stuff. . . you bet, rob.

They are still making threats but i have retained an attorney. they have violated the contract as well.

#5 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Benefits Plus..

AUTHOR: Brentp - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 13, 2009

I am a former employee of rent a center i worked for them from august of 2005 until october of 2008. I have inside knowledge to rent a center and the way it works including the benefits plus program. The employee was right by saying that you were ineligible for benefits plus at the time because he did not have your paperwork from unemployment. Okay once you have all the necessary documents the store is required to call and place a claim with benefits plus which yes unfortunatley it does take 30 days to review file and complete a claim. as for the length on service to fix the ps3 in most cases its 7 days from the time its picked up by the rent a center nation product service until it is returned to the store UNLESS with an item like that they have to send it back to sony who sends them a refurbished one in place of the original. you should not have incurred any cost to this as it says in your rental agreement rent a center will service and cover the cost of service to the item IF it is defect in the unit. The customer is responsible for the item and any repairs that may be needed if it is damaged beyond normal wear and tear I.E young child spills soda pop on the unit and burns it out..you therefore are responsible for damages done to the item now for whatever reason it just stops working one day for no reason no damage or anything then its up to rent a center to fix the item and have it back to promptly but sometimes it doesnt always work out that way..I encourage more of you rent a centers to please contact me at Exstasyismybuddd@yahoo.com if you have questions or comments. Again i am former employee with the company I have extensive knowledge into the company and its business practices.

Benefits Plus not at fault

AUTHOR: Danil - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 11, 2009

This sounds like Rent A Center gave you the run around. The benefits plus program does cover unemployment claims and if you had met all of the requirements they would have been able to cover the payments for your merchandise. Very few claims are denied at benefits plus so this seems like it was a rent a center error, not a benefits plus error.
