I received a letter from American Acceptance, LLC stating that because I was gainfully employed I was in a position to pay a debt for a Citibank account. When I called I spoke with Mary Adams, the apparent paralegel working my case.
Mary informed me that the account was being held by a law firm for garnishment. I started to ask questions regarding the account, and she got short with me and interrupted me. I tried to explain that this account was fraudulent, but she insisted that payments were made on the account so that there was no way that the account was fraudulent.
When I asked for the law firms information she replied "You will get that information soon enough." and hung up. I called back and let the receptionist know that Mary had been rude to me. I tried to explain that I needed the information about the law firm so I could look into this matter she said "Well Mary is the only one with that information, we can't help you, so don't call back.
So, with no place to turn I called Citibank. Citibank had no record of the account in question, because the debt was from 1999. The debt had changed hands several times, and I called all the the agencied that had held the debt, but no one knew where the account was held after June 200.
I then pulled out recent copies of my credit report and discovered that this account was not even listed on my credit reports from all three agencies.I tried calling Mary Adams back, but was told that she was away from her desk and that I could leave a message. The receptionist kindly took my name and number, but I have yet to be contacted.
I believe this is a total scam, these people are trying to collect on a debt that no longer exists. And when people try and resolve the issue they are rude and combative.

I have worked off and on for the company for the past 7 years. And all you people may think you know what this company is all about, but you have no idea what you are talking about. As for this ex employee that worked there and you say that they r a scam then you dont know them very well and you are just mad cuz you didnt have what it takes. As for the other people who post stuff on here about them being a rip off and they dont have the right to collect the money you own, come on you owe the money and you just want to get out of paying like all you other debtors that want to get stuff for free. American Acceptance has and always will be liceased and that will never change i would be the one to know that better then anyone cause i worked there for many years. You people that post stuff on here thinking that if people read it, it is going to make your debt go away but who is kidding who. THEY ARE NOT A SCARM SO STOP SAYING THEY ARE ALL THERE DEBTS ARE VALID AND YOU DEBTORS KNOW THAT!!

I worked for American Acceptance LLC and yes it is a scam. They receive outdated accounts from other agencies that have tried to collect on them and been unsuccessful then American Acceptance LLC tries to collect on them. Mary Adams is not a paraleagal she is actually the wife of the owner who also has the ficticious name of Terry Winters. Any employee that works there is asked to use a ficticious name. The owners of this company will not take taxes out of the employees wages and if you quit they threaten you if you mention applying for unemployment by saying they will turn you into the IRS for not getting taxes taken from your wages.
