Mary informed me that the account was being held by a law firm for garnishment. I started to ask questions regarding the account, and she got short with me and interrupted me. I tried to explain that this account was fraudulent, but she insisted that payments were made on the account so that there was no way that the account was fraudulent.
When I asked for the law firms information she replied "You will get that information soon enough." and hung up. I called back and let the receptionist know that Mary had been rude to me. I tried to explain that I needed the information about the law firm so I could look into this matter she said "Well Mary is the only one with that information, we can't help you, so don't call back.
So, with no place to turn I called Citibank. Citibank had no record of the account in question, because the debt was from 1999. The debt had changed hands several times, and I called all the the agencied that had held the debt, but no one knew where the account was held after June 200.
I then pulled out recent copies of my credit report and discovered that this account was not even listed on my credit reports from all three agencies.I tried calling Mary Adams back, but was told that she was away from her desk and that I could leave a message. The receptionist kindly took my name and number, but I have yet to be contacted.
I believe this is a total scam, these people are trying to collect on a debt that no longer exists. And when people try and resolve the issue they are rude and combative.
