Three months ago I signed up with Dish Network for my neighbor. I had a nice conversation with Jackie and my neighbor on the phone, Jackie assured me we would be in a month to month not a yearly contract. We were paying $10 more per month for this not to a yearly, it was recorded and agreed by all three of us. The bill was to be on my neighbors phonebill and it was.
Jackie said there was a one time set up fee of $50, credit/bank card required. Neighbor gave me cash I paid dish. I asked if they(Dish) were going to charge my card anymore monies, no I was assured.
My neighbor cancelled dish 3 weeks ago, no problem, no contracts. So we thought.
Dish hit my bankcard 4 times in less than one week, causing me multiple overdraft charges.
Total amount for $680.50. I called dish requested refund and they refused. They said we were in a contact, that there is No such thing as a month to month and they were entitled to the cancellation fee of $200 plus equipment fees.
My mistake, I called them back again and argued my point to no avail, I ended up getting mad and telling them I'd see them in court, they were not authorized to touch my my debit card.
My bank is also fighting with them about this. If there is a class action suit I'd like to get in on it.
Enough is enough with these people.

Steven, what's the issue you've had with Dish Network's customer support?

Credit or Debit

If you put it on your credit card there is no way they could have gotten your debit card (unless you gave them the debit card info thinking of it as a credit card).
If you supplied one but they charged another you need to take that up with your bank. They should not be linking credit card and debit cards together.
Did you sign any paperwork when they installed your dish?? Check that paperwork for any contract conditions.
I dealt with Dish Network awhile back. They were so bad I had no second thoughts about cable. Now they send me offers every month trying to get me back after saying that I could not ever get any discounts after dropping them.
The only way I would deal with these folks (if I ever do) is to go month to month with no contract. Maybe that way their customer support wouldn't be so bad.

Prepaid Credit Cards

My suggestion is, next time your neighbor wants you to do something like this for them, you have your neighbor buy a prepaid credit card (you can get them at CVS/Kroger/King Soopers/Walmart/etc.) for the installation fees. That way, when they try to hit all the credit cards they have on file for cancellation/equipment fees, they can't drain your bank account.
