I had signed up for a Dwolla account over a year ago because at the time my fiance and I wanted to be able to transfer funds into an account and pay bills (without having to create some sort of joint bank account).  Both of our banks were connected to Dwolla and we were able to deposit and withdrawal money.

One issue I noticed with Dwolla is that in order to make transfers of money (either in or out) takes up to 8 business days.  this is exceedingly long in this day and age of technology.

However, this is not my issue.  My FINAL transfer involved my fiancee depositing 2,000 dollars into dwolla (which took 7 days to clear) and then we withdrew the money from Dwolla and tried to put it into my account.  At that time, dwolla did not personally notify either of us, but left a banner note on our online account that requested a copy of my photo id in order to process the account (the money had still not been transferred).  I happened to check the Dwolla account, saw the banner notification, and immediately uploaded a copy of my passport.  The next day, I still had not recieved any personal email or phone call but I happened to check the online Dwolla account and it just told me that our account was suspended and I was to email someone.  No phone number.

So I sent an email and they told me they could not deposit the funds into my account unless my fiancee and I opened up separate accounts, provided copies of our bank statements (separately), and again provide copies of our identification.  They told me this would take another week.  Meanwhile they HAD 2,000 dollars that I desperately needed in order to pay my bills/rent etc.

I called them and asked them if there was any faster way to make this transfer as we had been using this account to transfer money this same exact way for over a year and only now were having problems.

Dwolla was fine with taking money from our account but then refused to deposit it without a MAJOR HASSLE even though we have been doing this for year?!!!

I told them to refund the 2,000 dollars to the original account and that we would no longer EVER use their services.  Please do not ever use Dwolla to manage your money. The transfers take a week (sometimes longer) and they are not professional when it comes to handling money.  They also have HORRID customer service.  There is NO phone number listed on their website. You are FORCED to use email to contact them.

I will never use Dwolla and I will be sure to notify all of my friends, family, and especially anyone with a small business to NOT use Dwolla.
