I had my wife's new car in the Firestone Complete Auto Care in Bellevue WA for an oil change. Several months later, when I changed the oil on the car myself, I found the car is still having the manufacture's orginal oil filter. I called the shop and confirmed that the shop uses generic oil filters. The shop clerks failed to explain why my wife's car is still using the manufacture oil filter on the phone. They said they would call me back for an explaination, but they never did.
I filed a complaint with the consumer affair dept and a district assistant manager tried to reach me once to discuss the matter. I called back several times and never get any respond. One time, I caught the manager on the phone, but he sail he was having lunch and will call me back. He never did.
I contacted the consumer affair again. The rep said he could not reach the district assistant manager and he will put this onto the manager's blackberry.
That is the last time I heard from them.

if this car is new--and they changed the oil first--and you did it next(being the 2nd)--and you claim they did not chnage your filter--here is the way to know--on every new car i have changed oil on--the oil filter has a stamp on it which says "manufacturer installed oil filter"--or something like this--you cannot buy an oil filter with this writing on the filter---and i worked for firestone--i have never seen them use dealer oil filters--if they do not have the filter in stock they usually get it from auto zone or something of this nature-you have a legitimate complaint--i would bet they probably couldn't get the filter so they kept the old one on--and instead of being honest--they let it go and charged you the extra 5-10$, which is actually kind of sad

Dealer filters are commonly used at firestone. Try fords for instance the standard tf400 filter doesnt fit the lincoln mkz or mkx. actual part number is a ??500?? Call a firestone and ask them what filter number is used on your vehicle...

#5 Consumer Suggestion

Stay off the phone!! File all complaints in writing!

The problem here is that you are making phone calls. You need to stay off the phone, and start making a paper trail.

What they did was FRAUD and is ILLEGAL. They charged you for something you did not get. You need to file a complaint with the state against thier shop license.

You also need to file one with the corporate office for Firestone and send a copy to the shop you went to.

Telephone complaints are a waste of time.

I would take them to court, so then they need to pay your losses and legal expenses too.

You took a brand new car to get the oil changed at firestone and they did or didnt change the filter...heres a tip look at your receipt and under the line where the oil filter is there should be a generic number for their oil filter such as tf335, tf400 etc depending on the car, if you could post year, make, model, and engine of the car i could help you out more, this being, if they replaced it with a dealer filter, which sometimes is the only option if a aftermarket one is not available on a new car, if they put a dealer filter on ur car it will have a non generic article number on the receipt and would be easily proven or disproven anyways, just tryin to help...but post the year, make, model AND ENGINE SIZE and ill let u know what firestone filter should be on it.
