Alex Cynecki in the claims department working for Progressive denied a very obvious claim.
My newly licensed son was driving behind one of their insureds by the name of Robert Heath Shores. Robert's tire flew off hitting and cracking my sons bumper and headlight on his Honda Prelude. Two surprise police officers came to the scene; Officer Hicks and Officer Reznik. My son immediately called me and I rushed to help ensure no one would be taken advantage of - especially my 17 year old son. Sorry to report, I'm the sucker! Robert was very cooperative and passed along his information. Officer Reznik advised there was no need to file a report as it was very apparent what happened. First problem... always file a report! Unfortunately we need to "gum" up the system with busy work because people like Alex Cynecki and Progressive will take advantage of it.
Here is the problem - conveniently, Alex Cynecki or Progressive are unable to get ahold of their insured to "verify" their insured hit us. Since they cannot get ahold of him, they are denying the claim - even after Alex Cynecki spoke to Officer Reznik and obtained "call notes" from the call to the police. Serious guys.. it'll be $1000 at the most!?
Unfortunately there are too few responsible people, especially people who will admit fault in an accident simply knowing if they don't respond there will be no recourse.
Based on the claims by Alex Cynecki working for Progressive, they have to speak to their insureds to "approve" a claim. That being said, Robert may as well had no insurance at all. The lesson my son learned from this is no one can be trusted, even if its a huge insurance company or a police officer providing advice. What a sad state of affairs.
After doing a little due diligence I found there are over 645 complaints/reviews with consumer reports. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/insurance/progressive_insurance.htm All of them sound familiar. Instead of paying claims, they are paying people like Flo to advertise their services with every other commercial on every channel available. Additionally, there are many other sites that complain of similar circumstances with Progressive.
Of course I am handling the issue through my insurance company and they will subrogate in attempt to be rightfully compensated. It's simply unfortunate I feel so "screwed" and have to revert to complaining on the internet.
