Fact #1,most of viscoms technical support stuff are incompident.My wife purchased a v2premier computer system,it arrived about a week after the order via ups. I hooked everything up and realized that the floopy drive wasnt working.
I called technical support and the rep took me throug a diagnostic test which incuded getting into the bios. At this point the computer asked for a password to let me in the bios which i didnt have because i never created one. The rep told that this is impossible and that i probably created one without realizing what i was doing . Well that was strike one,because in other words he just called me liar and ignorant.
Second i just realized that i wasnt the first owner of this computer because if viscom didint create a password and i know i didnt then who did; obviously the previous owner. SInce that day i stopped calling them and took matters into my own hands. Thank god that i have a clue about computers,i replaced the faulty drive and completelly restored the computer with a fresh copy of windows xp proffesionall edition that i owned from my other computer and got rid of all the garbage that came in preloaded with this system because it dosnt worth a dam,it actually makes the system run slower. Now i own a system that runs faster and cleaner than a lot of other systems with faster proccesors.
What consumers have to realize is that a lot of the underlying problems are software related and most of them actually windows xp related. I recomend that all v2premier owners switch to windows xp pro,it is more stable than windows xp home edition and dont believe people telling you that is the same thing.
I looks the same interfaze wise but is very different. Second if you have to restore your system make sure to completelly format your hard drive in order to erase everything from it,instead of using quick format which simply wrights stuff on top of stuff.
Then install softwhare that is essentiall to you and not all the crap that came preloaded just because it came whith it but you never use it.
Third defrag your hard drive at list once every three days to have things running smooth, i recomend investing in a good defrag program like executives softwhare difragmenter that will have your disk difraged in two to three minutes max instead of 30 minutes with the windows xp difragmenter.Fouth get into the good habit of backing up your importand files on cds or zip drives because windows is crashy. Anyone who played with computers for a long time knows this is just part of it,sooner or later your computer will crash period.
You can blame anyone but this is windows folks is far from perfect,just back up your files so you are prepared. Now as far as what you got for your money,well you got a good prossecor a good motherboard,a decent monitor,a lousy video card that i upgraded a so so sound card ,getting a creative labs sound blaster audigy and a decent set of speakers works wonders it will out perform most top end sound systems for a fraction of the cost.
The z33 printer is garbage dont expect any good quality photos out of this printer and the microtec scanner had to go. Its ok for begginers but thats about it. As far as i go i puchased a better printer from HP for 299.00 a scanner from EPSON 350.00 a great sound card from creative labs a set of speakaers from klisch 400.00 for both and an nvidia gforce TI4400 video card 275.00. THE SYSTEM SIMPLY ROCKS.
Keep in mind that all of this new hardware comes with bundled software that are ages better than what is included in your v2premier package.Total cost for computer plus upgrades 3,324.00 but i have a top of the line system. Remember cpu speed dont mean anything whith crappy components is just a number.
What makes your system is a good printer , scanner for your digital photos, a good video card for your graphics and a good sound card for your music. You got that you got a better computer than most people with faster cpus. Now in terms of the bundled software the windvd is a keeper the nero burn definetly a keeper word perfect 2002 very good , britanica a keeper and that is all i kept. To make the long story short the viscoms tech support people are bad in what they do, no question about it , i am not in the computer bussiness but i now more about computers than most of them.
In the systems defence i let you know that most of the problems you are expiriencing are operator related . People are simpy not educated about computers and simple fixes became a big deal when you dont know what to do.Please pick up a book about computers and in a short period of time you will realize that they are not that hard to figure out plus you will not have to put up with stupid reps trying to solve a problem that they have no clue about. Bottom line you can have a very nice computer system based on the v2premier plattform but you got to do some upgrades no way around it.
A friend of mine bought a 2,400.00 dollar computer from gateway with faster prossecor than my v2premier and he manages to crach it almost every day and me fixing it. It is nothing wrong with his computer its him, he actyally managed to get a 2.55ghz pentium 4 to run slower than my 1.8ghz v2premier.
