Search Tips- The only thing you are mentioning is your mom not having the money. There is nothing you wrote here that says they are making it impossible to pay the bill. Are they sending the bill right before the due date? Have they not given her an address to mail the payment to without a statement?
My Mom is 87 and if I wasn't here to help, I don't know what they would be doing!!
- They would be charging her $35 if she is late and $15 if shes make a phone payment.
Please let me know if this is legal or not.
- Whether or not you think it is right, it is of course legal. While a $35 late payment fee is on the higher side, it is not out of the ordinary. As for the $15 phone payment, that is normally done by a 3rd party on behalf of the company, hence the $15 fee is about the mid-range fee as these fees can run in the $10-$20 range.
Your mom has choices. She could make the payment late or pay the phone fee. She could also send a "bad" check that her bank may or may not cover(but in doing so would also incur probably a $30+ fee from the bank, and additional fees if they actually don't pay the check. There is another option, if you are not already doing so, you could pay the bill by check on-time and when your mom gets the money to pay you back if you want her to.
