Had  our 07 Chev 2500 silverado diesel towed to Merle Stone Chev. dealership with dead batteries. After one day of testing, they said it was fine and that we must of left the lights on. Went to pick it up the next day. Batteries were dead! Without any apologies, they took it back in and replaced one of the two batteries with the top of the line AC Delco. They said it was OK. Had the other battery checked by an independent shop the next day. It was crap too! Took it back to the dealer and talked to the owner about his service dept. They gave us a price break on another AC Delco battery. I now have two brand new top of the line AC Delco batteres with 7 year warranties. Within a year, both are crap. I try to get AC Delco customer service to warranty them. They said they need to be checked out at the dealer. Like hell I'm going back to that place. Went to another GM dealer who conformed that both batteries were crap and that there was nothing wrong with the truck. Cost me almost $100 to have the two batteries replaced under warranty. AC Delco could care less about my out of pocket expenses due to their failed product. I will never by an AC Delco product for my vehicles.

Regular, preventive maintenence is the key.

It simply amazes me how people will not do any preventive maintenence on their vehicles, and then when it has to get towed into a shop, all they do is complain.

Don't wait for batteries to completely fail.

Check them on a regular basis, top off as possible, clean terminals, inspect cables, etc.

Especially on a high amp draw situation like cranking a diesel motor...that's why they put 2 batteries in there!(Common sense).

Many shops and auto parts stores offer free load checks and/or system diagnostics.

Take advantage of these services.

Batteries rarely give advance warning when they fail.

No battery should be left in service after 3 years unless you are ok with paying tow bills and being left stranded. Extreme high heat areas like desert environment and extreme cold areas can kill a battery in 1-2 years.

When I lived in the Phoneix area, I changed out my battery every other year.

Never had a problem.

Also understand that just because you pay more for something, does not make it "top of the line".

AC Delco does NOT manufacture batteries. They just buy whatever they can get the best bid on and put their label on it.

From my personal experience, I have never had a good AC Delco battery.

Don't buy batteries from car dealerships as they don't sell as many as the big auto parts stores do, and they are not as fresh. You could be getting a "new" battery that is already a year or more old.

Get your batteries only from high volume retailers as they are usually the freshest, and doing a warranty exchange is much easier.
