On July 13th, 2008, a representative of American Cash Awards came to my boyfriend's home and was selling magazines to support college students.

I purchased a subscription to US Weekly for $74.00 with a $15.00 process and handling charge. I was informed I had to be the homeowner to purchase the magazine, so I completed the order form, using my first name and my boyfriend's last name-not my legal name. I asked the representiative if I could post date the check and was advise yes go ahead. I wrote the check, dated 8/8/08. The representative changed the date to 7/08/08 and submitted the check for deposit on 7/15/08.

I changed my mind about the magazine, and followed the instructions to cancel within 3 days. Which I did on 7/16/08. I received a postcard from ACA Clearinghouse, postmarked 7/28/08 asking for a copy of my check, front and back to be submitted no later than 6 weeks from the original date of sale, which I did.The information was faxed on 8/20/08. It also indicated my order had been canceled.

I have been trying since September 2008 to obtain my refund of $89.00 and when I make contact with the company I am told my refund is the highest priority.

When I try calling the phone numbers, the phone is answered with a recorded message that "they on the other line helping their satified customers and to push 1 to leave a message. If you don't push 1, the phone is automatically disconnected. I have left many messages and no one ever calls back. If I am lucky enough to actually talk to a customer service representative, I am told my refund is the highest priority.

I don't like being ripped off and am thinking of contacting an attorney to discuss this company's practices-letting me purchase a magazine using a false name, illegally changing the date on my check-the change was not initialed indicating I had made the change, no to mention the automatic disconnect of my phone calls.

I have also filled a report with the Michigan BBB, submitted letters to the local televsion networks-problem solver reporters, and am planning on contacing the State of Michigan Attorney General's Office regarding the unscrupulous practices of the this company within the state I live in
