Anytime Fitness/ Owner- Kim Strom Paid up front annual membership and then club closed 3 mos later. Refused to refund balance! Brownsville, Texas
*Consumer Suggestion: Refund possibility
Prior to paying for an annual membership I asked the owner if the club was financially viable for at least the next year. He stated yes, and then said if there was any chance that the club did close then he would make certain that I was refunded any unused portion of my membership. Well, 3 mos later the club closes. When I contacted him he gave me a number to call that was no help. I called him again to let him know and he stated that was the only number he had. The owners name was Kim Strom and I am out approximately $250! By the way, this was after i tried transferring my membership to another Anytime Fitness and it wasn't accepted.

Refund possibility

In Texas, health clubs are required to register with the state and have a surety bond on file to provide refunds should a gym go out of business. They aren't very good at enforcing registration, but if the gym was registered and did put up a bond, you might be able to receive at least a partial refund. Contact the State of Texas, Statuatory Documents Department, or just search for the Texas Health Spa Act and you can find out if they were registered.
