I was just contacted and was informed by someone by the name of "Lucia" that I was pre approved for a Mastercard and that this is the type of program that helps people with bad or no credit. She said that it comes with a free Gateway computer. Hmmmm. They mentioned a huge corporation's name right? Then she said that there would be a one time fee of $354.90, and that was due to the fact that they will not run my credit.

I reluctantly gave her one of my bank's account and routing number and told her there would be no money in it until Dec 20 (today is Dec 8, 2004) and she said they will schedule the payment to hit my account on Dec 20. She also said that if I don't have the money in my account and need a little time, to give them a call at least 2 days prior to the debit and they will extend the time.

So, the minute I got off the phone, my stomache was hurting and the sane person inside the person desperately seeking to re-establish her credit was screaming YOU IDIOT - THIS WAS PROBABLY A SCAM. Welp? I got right on line, went to Google, and punched in the name FIRST LINK BENEFITS and sure enough - this web site popped up with all kinds of bad news.

Now, let me assure you - I gave them an account and routing numbers to an account that I have not used in a year but still have. I believe my balance in it now is like one dollar. I am going to print all I can from this website about the scam and throw myself at the mercy of my bank. I am also going to contact the authorities be it Federal or otherwise to see if they can trace this fraudulant company.

From now on before I agree to do anything, I will most definately check out any company on line first and otherwise! I am just a single mom looking for a break and got taken!

Don't throw yourself at the mercy of the bank

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

This wasn't your fault and better yet you caught it in time. First and foremost, Cancel your account!! You said it wasn't one you use anyways. When they try to bill it it won't go through to you at all. NOW, call the company and cancel it. They may still try to bill the account but being that you closed it they won't be able to.

Be happy with yourself. You caught this in TIME!!!!!

Never pay for a credit card. There are easier ways to re-establish your credit. Go to a rentacenter and buy something like a vcr or a dvd player. Once you pay that off you'll be getting legitimate credit card offers (albeit with high interest,) but at least you won't be paying $400.00...

Hope I was of some help. Just don't worry about it. Take a deep breath and be happy that you caught the bad guys before they got you for money :)
