I purchased macintax from www.shopintuit.com which had free shipping. The order summary was emailed to me and I printed it out. The total came to $49.95 which I agreed to be billed to my credit card. Today I got an email stating that $54.32 was billed to my credit card. I looked at the order status which confirmed that the program had shipped and they charged me state tax!!! I don't mind paying state tax for stuff over the internet if it is disclosed to me upfront.------what I object to is agreeing to an amount to be billed via the internet to my credit card and having a company bill me another amount which is more than what I agreed to in the first place. This is a bad business practice. No where was it disclosed to me on their site that they would be billing me for state taxes for the product I was purchasing.

Q: Why doesn't sales tax appear in my order?
A: Because tax requirements vary between states, Intuit must calculate sales tax at the time of shipment. Please check your confirmation e-mail or your credit card statement to verify the final charge for your order.
That's very clearly stated in the FAQ's for www.shopintuit.com, and has been for quite some time. It is not up to the company to have a flashing red banner to alert you to the fact that your state requires tax be paid on the purchase.
