This company has horrible employee policies and transfers their staff from one store to the next each day. It's not wonder they are doing shitty business, as they can not establish a customer base when the management is being ripped from store to store.

For a company just starting out, they are stupid. They open all these stores when business sucks ans hire too many managers. When they decide they can't pay them all and let some go, they aren't paying those employees their last checks.

My boyfriend has been laid off due to insufficient funds for weeks now and still no final pay check. It's no wonder ripoffreport comes up right under the place page on Google search because this company is ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC. Avoid going to this company at all costs, if they don't pay their employees, why would you trust them with your business?!

Brittany is 100% Right on!!

AUTHOR: blackacidevil - (United States of America)

Brittany is absolutely right!! I left a very reputable company to come work for Mattress1One. Within my first week they give me the key to their best store(Ft. Lauderdale) where i became their hero and took the store to #1 in the company. This is when it gets ugly...It was obvious they were not use to paying a saleman of my caliber $1200-$1500 a week and they were constantly trying to find ways to penalize me and deduct money. Early October one of the 5 brothers palestinian brothers who own the company shows up to collect cash from the envelope safe in the store. He confronts me that 2 seperate deposits are missing! (impossible due to my nightly routine i could never have forgotten 2 seperate deposits.) He told me he would give me the benefit of the doubt and left. I explained to him that due to so many different people having keys to the store (even past fired employee's who they never paid a last check to.) i wanted him to change the locks on the doors and to provide me with a bank account in wich i could save deposit receipts for proof of my deposits. He said okay but never moved forward. He than later told me he did not wish to provide an account and to hold the cash to be collected. I am not comfortable carrying cash that does not belong to me. He also started taking money from my checks to pay back money that was missing wich i never took! Taking as he wished one week $200, next $450, 3rd $250. I explained i am not happy with this and why are these deductions not shown on my pay stubs. With his idiocy he replied "you owe me the money." I had immediately began to seek new employment when his reluctancey to change locks and provide an account for cash deposits transpired. When i found a new opportunity and quit this god forsaken company he threatened to have me arrested and has since written a false police report of my theft. Too me it was an obvious attempt to not have to pay me so much but now is causing my life more misery and aggrivation. I definately can understand what 90% of their customers have experienced in being ripped off! I thought the grass would be greener but i now realize Mattress Giant may not pay too much but was such a wonderful company. Corporated businessed like Mattress Giant would never risk lawsuits or treat customers and employee's this way. Either these Palestinean brother's don't realize they are in the US or they feel they are above the law.

If you are a customer beware, they bait and switch. Charge 20% re-stock fee's on products never in stock, send floor samples to fulfil orders when the customer believes new is being brought(Always check for plastic bag to be sealed...NOT TAPED) For employee's or would be employee's if you want to have no life and be slave driven this is the place. 60+ hours a week, no benefits, no vacation, and they will look for any given excuse to deduct bonuses and commissions. I advise to stay clear. I had 4+ years with Mattress Giant and never a single issue with my inventory or money handling. 3 month's with this company and now they are the thorn in my side for god knows how long!

Mattress 1 One Employee Policies

AUTHOR: M1 employee - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 27, 2011

I am responding to the article written by the girlfriend of a former Mattress 1 One employee. She stated that people shouldn't deal with Mattress 1 One because they treat their employees badly, and indicated that the company doesn't pay employees, and that he was laid off because there wasn't enough money to pay him.

I work for Mattress 1 One. I have friends who do so, also. The company pays its employees. No one I know is complaining of not being paid. Most are on direct deposit and are paid promptly every two weeks. To the best of my knowledge, this is entirely false! I don't know the whole situation in his case, but of all the people I've encountered who work for the company so far, everyone seems satisfied, myself included.

The other comment that was made was that Mattress 1 One moves their people from store to store, as if there's something shady going on! This is called "floating", and is common in this industry. Because bed sales are very different from other types of sales, usually a store will have a regular manager who is there from approximately 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. each day. When they take days off, "floaters" run the stores in their absense. New employees are often hired as floaters while they learn the workings of the industry, and when the company expands and opens more stores, the floaters are often given their own stores to manage. Meanwhile, they will rotate between different stores in their area. It is an efficient way to give new hires the opportunity to learn about different products, as not all the stores have every model in their showrooms, and also it provides the managers some much needed R&R. Floaters also have the advantage of being able to work from several stores, which means that if one store is slow, and another is busy, they might have more of a chance to make sales than if they were, say, at only one slower store all the time.

The only complaint some might have is that the hours are long. Because this is partly a commission job, it works best for one person to be in the store each day, rather than alternating shifts. Unlike many companies I've worked for, Mattress 1 One is better to its employees, because it does pay overtime to one employee who is responsible and reliable, rather than hire a bunch of part time workers and giving them very little pay. A five day week is often 50 hours or more. We know this up front, and it's not for everyone, but works well for people who are self-starters, and willing to take some responsibility. It is great for single people who don't have spouses or children at home, and who need to work the hours. In this economy, I for one, am grateful for it!
