Ridley Motorcycle Ridley Motorcycles are not worth the exorbitant price. Bikes are made with very cheap parts and their warranty is bad. Motorcycle is in constant need of expensive repair, if you can find anyone to work on them. Ridleys claims of company help are extremely exaggerated. Ridley offers big promises with no validity. After doing my homework, I purchased a 2003 Ridley 740 Auto Glide motorcycle. The bike was originally sold for $18,500. When I purchased the bike it had 140 miles on it.

The year warranty Ridley offers on the purchase of the bike new had expired. However, with the literature from Ridley about excellent customer service, immediate response time and their customer forum so full of only positive remarks, I purchased the motorcycle.

Wrong! This has been the worst decision I have ever made. Ridley not only has poor customer service, they never answer their phones nor reply to any emails. Their website is very misleading. The customer forum is edited and negative remarks are not placed on the forum so that a potential buyer can make an educated decision.

I only wanted some mechanical help and a number where I could order parts for the Ridley. Ridley wouldn't even respond to that email and I was going to order an expensive part from them. Does that speak volumes? It does to me.

I am going to sell this bike but unlike Ridley I cannot sell the motorcycle like it is. I am going to repair the bike and take a huge loss on the sale. I am a single mother whose only hobby is riding. Ridley motorcycles has ruined that joy for me.

Please tell your friends, the motorcycle looks great but is a chrome and metal piece of junk.

Ridley Rules!

AUTHOR: Sassy - ()

POSTED: Saturday, June 01, 2013

Why didn't you take care of your bike? Don't you have a owners manual? Nothing you said it true. I'm almost insulted by what you said.  Some people aren't made to ride Ridleys and I guess you're one of them. I've had my Ridley for almost 3 years.  My bike is beautiful and everywhere I go pictures are taken of my bike. The chrome is real chrome The paint job/flames are one of a kind and the pipes are loud, like real loud. I love that!

I own a '79 shovelhead, a '89 soft tail and a '05 Ridley and ride only my Ridley. I have so much fun on this bike. It fits me perfectly and I feel safe on this bike. There are two certified Ridley mechanics in my county but my bike has never broke down on me-ever! I have regular service jobs done and that's it. I can't take my shovelhead across the country and I sure wouldn't take my soft tail. My Ridley is reliable and dependable and won't leave me on the side of the road! I'm not a weekend biker, it's my life,  I ride every single day.

Just remember, not everyone can be a Ridley rider. If it's not the bike for you move on, stop being a cry baby and get different bike. You don't have to bad mouth Ridley just because you don't know how to take care of your bike!

Peace!

Why would anyone take issue with someone saying that if false misleading statements about them or their company are not revised and made accurate, they will take action to resolve the matter. Free speech is fine but it should have consequences if it is not truthful. If you can not, or are unwilling, to back up what you say, don't say it.

MJ's original complaint is misleading and contains false or wildly exaggerated information. For this reason, Ridley has decided to give MJ the option of deleting this report and filing an accurate report. If she chooses not to revise her statements, we will be forced to take action against MJ.

When used properly, this site is one method to not only educate other potential customers but to help alert companies of area that need correction. We did take notice of MJ's comments and have addressed the issues that were accurate. It is troubling to me, that someone would attempt to use this site to mislead the public.

We kindly ask MJ to revise her earlier statements with information that is accurate.""""'

2nd Bike, Last Bike!!!

AUTHOR: Irish1 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 17, 2009

I own an Indian Scout. I love it, looks great but I hate the shifting. I am in the process of making a deal for a 2009 Auto Glide Classic. I can't wait. I 1st heard about the Ridley's in 2006. I fell in love immediately. I said " This is what I have wanted all along." Couldn't find a dealer in my area so it fell by the wayside. I let someone talk me into the Indian. Lately, health & problems with strength have caused me to rethink the whole idea. I am finally doing what I said I would. The Indian is over 600 lbs., the Ridley, only 460. It's a no brainer, yes? I believe the Ridley family has done a good thing for those of us who would never have gotten on a bike and for those who suffer from handicaps. HD should take a lesson from them. Yes, we all want to make money from our businesses but when you start getting greedy like HD then you lose sight of the real deal here. Having respect for your customer base means alot these days. HD makes us feel they are always doing us a favor by working on our bikes. They have gotten too big to care. I am hoping this doesn't happen with Ridley. I have done my homework & buying new is the way to go. This way, you know what you are getting. Please keep making these bikes, Clay & Jay. Thank you!

Highly Recommend Ridley- Wife & I have owned 3 Ridley's.

AUTHOR: Longtimerider - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 22, 2009

My wife and I bought our first Ridley in 2003 when the first larger models came out. We bought it from a dealer in Yukon, OK (about 15 miles from the Ridley factory). Our purchase experience was good, but after the sale the dealer was of little help. After spending two weeks trying to get help, I contacted the factory (juli) who told me to contact the Ridley Dealer in Carthage, MO. WOW- what a difference. My only regret was not buying the bike from these people. Derek & Marsha Smith at Route 66 Ridley have an incredible passion for the Ridley product and that shows in how they treat me and everyone I've sent to them. They give me the right answer (not always what I want to hear, but it is the truth).

I have met the Ridley's several times and must say that I am amazed that they take time to respond to the posts on their message board and on site like these. I must say that they are very, very engaged in the business and it shows. And, even through I am less than seven miles from them, I still have to take my bike to a local dealer for regular maintenance.

Since our initial Ridley buy, we've traded up twice. We traded the '03 for an '06 Classic and just recently traded the '06 for an '09 Classic. You won't believe the difference in the latest model. The difference is shocking. My wife loves the large speedometer on the dash. I love the heavier suspension, parking brake, and new handlebars. Ridley has really made some great changes to their products.

I love this company's products. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't be riding. My appreciation for what the Ridley has done for us shows in the miles we ride and the support we give to them when people ask about our motorcycle.

As for the responses above I must say that I am surprised at the number of people that love this company compared to the few that have had trouble. There have been a few times that I have not been able to get an answer from my local dealer and have had to call the factory. I've never not gotten a call back (even though it might be a day or two). For anyone to test their response, all you need to do is try it. Give them a call.

After my very short 54 years in this life I am most concerned about the ramifications the internet presents. Many of the people in this forum and in others on this site hide behind the system and take jabs at companies and other people. If you have a real complaint, don't be afraid to put your name on the line. The Ridley's are here trying to protect their good name.

I highly recommend Ridley. If you have any questions about my experience, I would be glad to give you my first hand account. Feel free to email me. I'll give you my telephone number and we can talk.

... I can't stand it. I have to say something ...

AUTHOR: Knightflight (paul) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 26, 2009

Hi everyone,
I made some comments above but haven't commented about the "Take Action" rebuttal Jay made. I've been watching it s****.> Now bare with me folks..... I'm new to motorcycles. Never owned or ridden one. I came across the Ridley because I was looking at scooters then fell upon motorcycles (i've no choice. I'm now disabled and had to give up my car). I've been researching 75cc engines/scooters up to 750cc engines/motorcycles. I've little income so I hope to get a Yamaha Morpheus with a "Trike-kit" (training wheels) cause I can't hold up a bike. I hope to have my scooter by next year maybe. Now I'm online as long as 18 hours at a time. so out of curiosity I researched the Ridleys.

Sooooo, what I'm saying is I've no stakes in all of this, but hopefully some knowlege to share (all off the internet).

I've read articles that Jay has written, listened to him on radio interveiws, watched videos of him and his father Clay, read articles that Clay wrote, read press releases Ridley Co. has released (all written by Jay), spoke to a man from the auto business who knew Clay, and even a lady in the music buisness that spoke highly of Jay (I'm a retired musician....we all know eachother). I DO have proof to everything I just said (i have it all saved in a file). Mostly I've read road reviews and watched video shows comparing motorcycles/scooters to eachother. So that's what I found.

Hi Adolf, I want to comment on your last rebuttle. Your title goes from "An unusual response" referring to Jay's "Take Action" rebuttle to a "Venomous response." WOW, I think that's a little hard on Jay don't ya think ??? And I'm sorry you took Jay's comment as, "Shut-up, go away, or I'll sue you." I didn't take it as that. I think he was saying, "You're giving out false information and you need to correct it." Jay gave the woman plenty of time to change her story. People were questioning her. People (at least I) noticed there was something wrong with her complaint. And it wasn't until Jay defended himself that her story suddenly changed. Jay gave her plenty of time. Today businesses and people HAVE to say "Take Action" or nothing gets settled. I used to fight and get in trouble untill I learned to call 911 and let the police settle it (not that I ever got in trouble really). But I had to wait and THREATEN, "Stop it cause the cops are on their way."

Yes Adolf, this was "followed by some damage control on the part of Jay" as you put it, and maybe people were looking for an apology. Jay DID admit that he......I forget ... but it was down the lines of being harsh on the lady. And yes this is a "Complaint site" as you also put it, so knowone can get sued cause it's more of an "Opinion site." I think it's covered by the freedom of speach act (not really sure).

I'm not picking on you Adolf, I just want you to notice Jay DID explain how he realized this is a "complaint Site." He just said it differently and wanted the ladie's facts straight.

From my point of view (as an artist/musician) I get very passionate about my work. Making hand-built bikes is an art. Jay may have let his passion get away from him. Who knows.

But I see it like this......A big famous actor doesn't care what people say about them. But when knowone knew them earlier in their career THEY ALL had to speak out about a rumor being said about them. A bad rumor could ruin their carrer. The same goes with a product you're selling. We've all heard the phrase "Word of mouth." Well Ridley isn't that big of a company yet. They're not famous. Hard-ley Abal-son wouldn't even be on this site. Why ???? Because they wouldn't care. They're to big now. That should say something right ??!!! That Jay is on here talking to folks. Not to mention Clay and Jay Ridley have given their cell phone numbers to some of their customers.

Like I said people/Adolf, "I've no stakes in all of this." I just think people are bullying Jay and I can't understand why ???!!!! Maybe we could all compare stats or something on this site and let this all go. You know, like Honda vs/Ridley. Maybe we can help others make better motorcycles instead of ruining them. I think of their families that need to be fed, or safer motorcycles so people don't die. I've researched the Ridleys and I hope they make it !!!

I hope you do to Adolf. Now can you help me and tell me who "Magnedson" is ??? I don't mind if people laugh at me. I just want to know. I'm not to bright sometimes. Thanks my friend.

Thanks everyone/RipRep/Adolf. SorrySoLong, Paul

An unusual response......

AUTHOR: Adolph - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 15, 2008

...there have been a plethora of complaints on this site regarding a multitude of manufacturers and sales entities. This is the first time I have noted such a venomous response such as was posted by Jay of Ridley motorcycles. Basically: shut-up, go away, or I'll sue you. YeahThis was followed by some damage control on the part of Jay. Jay needs to avoid getting his shorts in a wad, as this IS a COMPLAINT site, afterall. Gee! I wonder if Magnedson will be a counter defendant?

AUTHOR: Silverspoon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 21, 2008

I almost forgot to add, to the two people who will not purchase a Ridley because of Jay's comment about "taking action" I have only this to say:

If you were constantly, wrongfully, slandered over the internet by someone who knows nothing about you and has only delt with you in the third person, you would threaten to "take action" as well. If you can't understand that, well, we don't want you in the Ridley family anyway. It's a Ridley thing and you wouldn't understand.

Update on Ridley for 2008

AUTHOR: Silverspoon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 21, 2008

I also looked at the Ridley in the 2001-2003 time period. They seemed like a decent bike, not the best made, but decent which made them WAY overpriced. Since then they have made corrections and upgrades without drastically raising the price. I bought one several months ago, 2008 model. It comes stock with better quality than a Harley in several aspects. These would include a powder coated frame, ceramic coated pipes, K&N air filter, braided cables, completely chromed out-including front forks, all LED lighting and lots of numorous options. It runs fantastic, always starts on the first try (providing I remember to take off the parking brake first.) It also has plenty of power for a 750 cc.

As for the customer service, the dealership ALWAYS answers or returns my calls, replies to emails and ships phone orders the next day. In addition to this, something my husband wishes the Harley dealer would do, they install any parts that I buy from them at no additional cost.

I understand that the original complaintant had a bad experience in 2003, but the company constantly improves the bike every year and they have come a long way in the past years. I think that this needs to be updated because this complaint from 5 years ago is giving a good American motorcycle company a wrongful bad name.

Ridley Ripoff Response

AUTHOR: Bancroft - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 12, 2008

I have owned a Ridley motorcycle for the past 3 years now and I've enjoyed EVERY day and mile of it. This is a quality bike built by craftsmen. On the rare occassion I've need any technical help from the company, I've found them to be very polite, caring, understanding and generally treat you like familty.

I have no affilliation with Ridley at all except for the fact I own a Ridley and while I'm sorry that one person may have had a questionably bad experiance for what ever reason, I am proud to tell you that a Ridley motorcycle is a fine product and I for one could not be happier.

Options to Ridley- Hondamatics cost less money, but you need to know how to work them

AUTHOR: Angel From Florida - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Hi!

When I was new to riding motorcycles I decided that before investing more than 15K on ANY bike I would like to learn the ropes first. Researching Automatic bikes I found two feasible options- Go Ridley (new bike) or Go Hondamatic (old bikes). Since I did not wanted to spend too many dollars on my first ride (I might drop it) and I have some mechanical ability, I decided to go the Hondamatic way. My '77CM400A has 7300 miles, the CB750A has 17K miles. The Hondamatics were built in 400CC-450CC from 1979-1983 and 750 CC sizes from 1976- 1978 (see the wikipedia article for detailed info on them and the SOHC Culture). I paid for each bike about 600 dollars, spent about 300 dollars more making them roadworthy (carburetors, caliper repair and filters on one, chain & sprockets on the other). I have spent less than 2k and I have two motorcycles! I'll probably spend 2k more on new paint jobs, chrome and saddlebags. Riding bikes should be matter of enjoying them. If you can't afford the repairs of ANY vehicle or secure parts for it on the open market and do the repairs yourself, you should not have it. You have to do your homework when buying used and if the whole thing goes south, Bite the bullet! Don't blame them, It's YOUR bike, YOU bought it used.
ANY vehicle will breakdown and ALL of the manufacturers will have a bad review here and there, But like everything else- web based opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. BUT Mr. Ridley's response really made me uneasy, for some reason It felt "Overreacted". He should know better, He is the image of a corporation. Everybody else is a crazy fan (from either side of the aisle) with an Ax to grind.
Threatening/Pressuring/Bullying and getting ticked off at your own customers? (we all have been there) but doing it in public?
Hummm, I like my Hondamatics even more.

Ridley is the BEST!

AUTHOR: Dee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 28, 2008

I have had my Ridley since Sept. 16, 2005. In no instance have I ever had any of the problems mentioned in the ripoff Report. There were 2 times that I had to have parts shipped to correct a problem, they were shipped overnight and I received them as promised. My bike has had the normal maintance done, nothing else until we were at the factory in June and were advised that my bike was due for an upgrade at the company expense. I know of no other company that would do that. I am sorry that there were problems with the used bike that was at the route of the Ripoff Report.
I cannot say enough good things about the Company and the Ridley family.

To Readers and Beth in Rockford, Il.....

AUTHOR: Knightflight (paul) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 25, 2008

Beth (Rockford, Il.),

Thankyou sooo much for your offer to see your bike in person. I'll be e-mailing you ASAP to see your pride and joy !!! I hear Ridley riders are a special breed, and you've shown me that by your kindness (and helping the Ridleys with cards/brochures). Thanks and Nice Job !!!

To the Ridley readers on this site,
I have a story.... When I was a young man at my familie's 5-bay auto center, I was talking with the other mechanics about the new mini-vans coming out. We had a lube bay that my brother organized so we could do a 25-point check system on a car and have the car out in 10 to 15 minuets (it's advertized as "The Lightning Lube" ... I don't think I can say the name of our auto center on this site). LOL

Well all of us mechanics dreaded the mini-vans, especially the Ford Aerostar. Reaching up and getting out the oil filter burned the heck out of our arms, and hands because of where they stuck the darn thing (untill we got special gloves). But still oil dripped straight down into a U-shaped frame that caught the oil. As much as we would reach up and wipe it out our customers STILL got a few drips of oil on their driveways (causing them to call us and ask if we remembered to tighten the oil plug). Well we solved that by telling our customers about the drips before they left our shop.

Soooo, me and our mechanics agreed that engineers who design cars should be required to work on cars for 2 years before being allowed to design them.

My point is, CLAY RIDLEY !!! Someone should write a book about the guy. He's paid his dues by living, studying, working on, and solving problems with all types of machines/engines. And now he's designing and building them as HE LEARNS and LISTENS to his customer's ideas, AND listens to his bike's engines.

Like I said before...."I've done my research !!!"

Blessings and good thoughts your way Ridleys.

(-: Thanks Everyone and Ripoff Report, Paul :-)

Ridley Fan Here!

AUTHOR: Beth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 25, 2008

So far, I have read the entire section on this Rip Off Report regarding Ridley Motorcycles.

As far as I can tell, I see only a FEW negative comments by a FEW people! Obviously, in every business, there will be complaints and you will never make everyone happy. In every business, there are problems with the product. Not everyone is perfect and not every product manufactured is perfect.

Only the business owners can make their own reputation happen and as far as I'm concerned the Ridley's do a fantastic job of doing just that! I have NEVER had a problem with Ridley Motorcycle Company. I purchased my 2007 Autoglide in August of 2007 in Minnesota. I drove all the way from Rockford, Illinois to purchase it because there were no dealerships in Illinois at that time.

To Paul in Rockford:

If you ever want to see my Ridley in person, just contact me at my email address (Sealbabe62@aol.com) and we can arrange that! I have a very rare color I'm told. It's candy blue with purple flames and I get so much attention everywhere I go. I've had to order several sets of brochures from Ridley themselves and also where I bought it in Minnesota! Everytime, and I mean everytime, I go out somewhere I give out a brochure or now they have small business card brochures which are VERY handy by the way - thanks Jay and Clay for making that happen!

The only "problem" I had with my Ridley was the chrome on the headlight was cracking and starting to peel after about 6 months. I contacted the dealer I bought my Ridley from and they contacted Ridley. Since chrome was only covered for 6 months, my dealer let me buy a new headlight at his cost and got it shipped to me right away. I've also had some bolt issues with my saddlebags, but again, Ridley shipped them next day to the costum motorcycle shop that now works on my Ridley here in town and had my bike back the next day!

I have personally met Clay Ridley up in Minnesota and he was nothing but courteous, caring and very approachable. Try doing that with the owner of any other company, I challenge anyone to that! Go on the Ridley website (Ridleymotorcycles.com) and to the owners forum. CLAY RIDLEY answers the questions you have regarding any problems you have and tells you how to resolve it or to call to Ridley personally.

So yes, I am disputing this rip off report very much so!

I have over 900 miles on my Ridley since last August (because of Illinois winter weather I couldn't really get out on it much last fall and this spring). I don't know how anyone can only have 140 miles on their Ridley! I get on it every chance I get! The magic is....I DONT HAVE TO SHIFT! (I tried a Honda 750 Shadow and couldn't get the hang of the shifting) Obviously, they didn't want a motorcycle in the first place??

Owner of Two Ridleys

AUTHOR: Loyal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 25, 2008

I am very sorry that MJ had issues with her bike. I own two Ridleys and must say my experience has been so far removed from hers, it is hard to believe we are talking about the same company.

I purchased a new 06 TT in March 06. I have had nothing but pleasure from the bike. As we prepared to go on a bike trip, my bearing went out in the jackshaft. My current service center was on an annual bike rally and could not call into Ridley to get my needed parts. I called Ridley directly, explained the issues, had the parts sent directly to me along with a repair explanation. When my service center returned, parts were waiting on them, two hour repair and my long awaited bike trip went off without a hitch. Please tell me of another manufactured that will do that for you?

For two years, Ridley has welcomed us to their factory for a rally. During this time, they have personally shut down operations to service our bikes.....telling us we are helping them because they are able to see them after some miles are put on them. I was so impressed, I found and fell in love with their Speedster model, which is discountinued, but still supported. I bought it on the spot and love the little guy.

My biggest problem is which one do I ride?

I have had minor issues, but who hasn't with any product they have purchased? I am well satisfied with the way I chose to spend my money.

Ridley motorcycles - an example of excellence and quality

AUTHOR: Dan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 25, 2008

To all who read this and truly enjoy being in the wind. I must say that my wife's and my experience with the Ridley Motorcycle, the Company,The Ridley family and Owners has been fantastic and very satisfying. We are Ridley Owners and riders. Ridley makes an exceptional motorcycle that is well engineered and manufactured using top quality parts and accessories. The customer service that the Ridley Motorcycle Company provides is by far the best I have ever witnessed.

Each and everytime that I have had a question or concern in regards to this magnificent machine I have had no problem making contact with a pleasant, courteous and very helpful person, whether it being face to face at a deallership or over the phone with a receptionist, a technician or even with Clay and Jay Ridley themselves. I honestly doubt that the President and CEO of H.D., honda, or any of the other major manufacturers of motorcycles would take the time and personally call me up at my home on a saturday to answer a question or show his/her concern. I have no regrets purchasing A Ridley Motorcycle, in fanct I am in the process of buying one as I write and am looking forward to buying a 3rd Ridley in the near future. Clay, Jay, family and crew, keep doing what your doing.....Making excellent quality motorcycles with a genuine concern and happiness for the rider.

#35 REBUTTAL Owner of company

TO: Concerned (Cherry Hill, NJ)

AUTHOR: Jay - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 24, 2008

Dear "Concerned",

I apologize for not replying to your posts on July 5th and 6th; however, I was unaware of them and your request for reply. A Ridley Owner directed me to your post.

Most Ridley Owners know how easy it is to get in touch with us (Clay or myself). Our time is dedicated to this company and that means we are dedicated to our owners, current and future. I would be happy to discuss your experience or interpretation of the preceding posts at your convenience. Our main office telephone number is answered by a receptionist who will direct you to me. And if you are at one of the major motorcycle rallies, come find our display. I'm usually there helping answer questions and working the display. (Usually cleaning an owner's bike.) Our business is a true family business that might be growing faster than we expected, but we will always be willing to talk with our customers.

What I can offer to the current and prospective customers who read this report during their pre and post purchase research is that we (the entire Ridley Motorcycle Company) strive to offer innovative products and incredible support to each Ridley owner. The time and effort my staff and I give to each owner of new and old Ridley Motorcycles is only rewarded by the tremendous praise we receive from the loyal Ridley owners and the joy and excitement these motorcycle bring to them. Building a brand takes time. No amount of money can develop the type of long lasting relationships we have with so many of our owners. Over the past thirteen years, I have had the pleasure of meeting thousands of Ridley Owners and each one is just as grateful for the motorcycle as we are for their business.

I sincerely appreciate everyones input on this site. The stories from all of these Owners are real. Anyone interested in our motorcycles should go to the Ridley Owners site at www.RidleyOwners.com and join the Owners Forum. I urge prospective owners to get the first hand experience from Ridley Owners all over the World. We couldn't ask for a more loyal following of owners.

I look forward to speaking with you,

I've researched Ridley !!!!!!!

AUTHOR: Knightflight (paul) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 24, 2008

1st off, it's easy to namecall while hiding your idnentity on the internet. So let me introduce myself. I'm Paul (Rockford, Il). //// I'm disabled so I need an automatic bike for long highway trips. After sitting on some bikes (even scooters) I found my legs are to weak to support the machine/s.

Then I found a picture of a Ridley with a "trike kit" attached (on a disabled rider's site). It looked sweet !!! //// I've researched everything I can to find out about Ridley Motorcycles, other motorcycles, trikes, trike kits, and scooters. You name it, I've researched it. By accident I found on some forums how Clay and Jay Ridley treat their customers. ////

This site (Ripoff Report) kinda disturbs me. 1st, freedom of speach is good !!! But I'm seeing a family-run American made company being cut down and yes HURT. And by people who I'm sure have returned a bad microwave oven, or a faulty DVD player, or even AN AUTOMOBILE at sometime in their lives. //// Think about that. There's more parts to a car or a motorcycle than a microwave or DVD player. The odds are there that something CAN/WILL go wrong. WITH ANY PRODUCT !! So I'm cutting the Ridley company some slack !!! ////

Now I've researched EVERYWHERE !!! Their product is good. What's not good, they have fixed. What they haven't fixed were a few complaints that fell thru the cracks for whatever reasons. EVERY company has a few complaints fall thru the cracks. It's life !!! ////

What I'm reading on this site about the Ridley company reminds me of this ..... Ya know the big strong dog lying in the front yard (Ridley Company) ??? The tiny toddler pulling on it's tail ??? Grabing it's fur ??? Banging on the dog with it's fists giggling and laughing the whole time ??? The child doesn't know it's hurting the dog. Then the dog rolls over and gently starts playing with the toddler. He'd protect that child with his life. He's a "PLAYMATE" AND a "GUARDIAN." ////

Some here are hurting the Ridleys not knowing they are. Some are deliberately trying to hurt them. The fact is, the Ridleys are not going away !!! //// Have I bought a Ridley motorcycle ??? Not yet, but disabled income or not I'm going to !!! From my research on the engine, the ride, the safety, AND the Ridley family, a Ridley cycle has the spirit of that big strong dog !!!! ////

Me being disabled, I'm going to have to trust my Ridley with my life ..... a PLAYMATE and a GUARDIAN, that's the spirit of a Ridley !!!!" [jeeez, now I sound like a friggin' commercial -- sorry] //// Let's just keep in mind that they're a company that's trying. Ok ??? //// And Jay appoligized for some statements he made on this site. That's big in my book. //// Thanks everyone, AND Ripoff Report, Paul (Rockford, Il)

I have heard nothing but good things about Ridley. I didn't know until today they were based in Oklahoma. Which makes sense as to why the Ridley "family" is so down to earth and friendly.

I can't wait to get my Ridley....

Ridley Rider

AUTHOR: Finallythere - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I purchashed a Ridley at Myrtle Bike Week directly from Clay and Jay Ridley. When I got home I had tons of questions and I was waiting on a part because my arms are too short for the handle bars. All I can say is I was pretty pushy and probably somewhat impatient but I still always got a pretty quick response and was never treated with anything but respect and understanding by everyone I spoke with at Ridley.

Recently I had a problem with the bike not starting so I brought it to a Ridley Service Tech and he not only got the part overnighted but the bike was repaired immediately. Anything can go wrong with a motorvehicle:bike/car/boat, you name it but it cannot always be blamed on the company who made the vehicle. If Jay got to the point where he spoke about further action then I would guess there was more to the situation than we read. I thank you Ridley family and service tech. I really want to ride and Ridley has made it possible for me to ride a great looking bike and feel comfortable and confident!

A 3 year old bike with only 140 miles on it? I ride my custom every day, and it gets over 12K miles per year.

If you buy something used that hasn't been used that much(less than 50 miles per year?), expect something to be really really wrong with it.

Just to let you know. I found this site while trying to find reviews on your product. While everything I read was mostly positive the ONLY negative thing that caused me to reconsider was YOU!

140 ?? Or 2300 ?? / Question for Jay ...

AUTHOR: Knightflight (paul) - (U.S.A.)

Did I catch that right ?? ... that in MJ's first statement she said her Ridley only had 140 miles on it ??? Then later she commented on Marc's "140 miles of Hell" rebuttal saying it had 2300 miles on it (when she bought it) ??? Well reguardless, I think Marc might be right about the bike being misused. A lot can happen to a bike in just two miles let alone in 140 miles. ANY rider that rode the bike previous to her buying it could have messed it up. I hope you're still riding MJ. Good luck and be safe. Thanks.

QUESTION TO JAY RIDLEY: How can I send you a photo of a Ridley with a trike kit on it ?? It's a cool pic if you ask me.

Thanks everyone, Paul

Am I missing something in this report?

AUTHOR: S. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 29, 2008

Lola stated there were over 100 complaints against Ridley Motorcycles on this website alone, but I am unable to find them. All I can find are MJ's complaint here and 24 additional reports against Ridley TELEPHONE Company.

I saw a Ridley Motorcycle at Myrtle Beach, SC (Bike Week) a couple of weeks ago and kept walking away from the temptation because I didn't want to drive my own bike but was content to ride on back of my husband's Harley. Since we got home, we just can't quit thinking about it. I don't buy anything expensive without previous experience with brand/company or a good deal of research. I always expect to find some negatives on everything, after all, you can't please everyone all the time. If there is a particular weakness, several people should have complained about the same thing - not one person making the same complaint repeatedly. So where are all the other complaints?

Ridley Owners or Owners to be.. "ignore the one bad apple in the bunch"!!

AUTHOR: Gayle Langan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 06, 2008

I ran across this website when I was going to sign up for the Ridley Rally and saw a rider from from Columbia SC As I lived in Charleston SC when I bought my Bike in 2006.

So, I started reading what she had wrote and ended up reading all of the responses back & forth between that Mj and others that had a negative experience and for the guy that changed his mind because Clay and Jay stood up for their company can take his business down the road. We as Ridley Riders don't need him in our RIDLEY FAMILY!! My husband researched the Ridley for me to be able to Ride. My hands are Handicapted and we went to several Harley Davidson Dealers and asked if we could get help in redoing the clutch/hand brakes so that they could be adapted for my hands. at the time we had a Dyna Wide-glide and my Husband wanted a bigger Bike and thought we could redo his bike for me.

well as big as Harley Davidson is I got the same response from all of them. "If its not in the Parts book as a kit we can't help you. no one would take the time to help me. which there are alot of people out there that might have a Harley if their customer service was as good as Ridley's. I met Clay & Jay at Daytona Bike week in 2006 and Clay himself spent 4hrs with me. He told me that if I wanted to Ride my own bike he would make it happen and what ever had to be done to the Bike to make it to where I could ride it he would do it. I had tears in my eyes when he told me that and hugged him and thanked him for allowing me to be a Lady Rider. even as I write this I still tear up.

Clay went over that Bike( I bought his Black Demo Bike)with me and my husband with a fine tooth comb! showed my husband all the mechanics of it even down to how to change the oil. and to take it one step further because I didn't even have a permit he would ship it to Charleston SC for me to pick up there. Daytona is not the place to try to learn h*e to ride!.

With Clay sending the parts and diagrams to the Dealer in Charleston Sc they rebuild the front end of my bike to fit my hands. my left hand is better than my right so they rewired the bike and put the hand brake on the left side where the clutch would be on any other bike. the brake handle is real close to the handlebar so it fits the opening spand of that hand.

I have Riden my Ridley for 2 yrs now and Ride year round even in the cold I load up on leather and hit the rode. I have ridden my Bike on "Tale of the Dragon" Route 129 which is the 318 curves in 11 miles and hard for allot of Riders but my Bike and I had no problem. I take my Bike to all Rallys. Different Bike weeks all over the place and this years I'm going to little and bif sturgis where I hope to see the Ridley guys again!

I had a nice custom Paint job done on it and added alot of chrome stuff. and its beautiful!! the Bike is made up of Harley Parts and Kuryakin parts so the you can add what you want to it. and maintain it. I have added lot of stuff even have multi color lights on my engine now. EVERYWHERE I go people stop and look at my Bike and are amazed by it.

I am a proud Lady Rider and thanks to Clay Ridley I am free to "Ride My Own". I do my regular maintence and have no problems. I stopped by the Ridley Tent last year and Clay checked out my Bike when I was there and he didn't like the feel of my brakes so he grabbed his tools and got down in the sun on the ground and reajusted them. How many Big Company Owners will do that? they tell you to make an appointment with the service department.

My Husnad has his Road-King Harley and I have my Ridley and we ride side-by-side with a smile on our faces as we beat the odds! My husband has even had other men tell him that they wish they could get their wives on their own bike and thank him for buying the Bike for me as they see the proudness in me when I ride. I know this response was long but after reading the stuff others wrote negativly I wanted to make sure people knew what kind of people the Ridley Owners were. I want to Thanks Clay & Jay Ridley for all they do in helping peolpe like me no matter what it takes.

Signed: A Very Happy Ridley Rider

#21 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Lola

AUTHOR: Jay - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 01, 2007

Lola: I find it unfortunate that this single report has changed your mind about owning a Ridley Motorcycle. In this report there are several owners boasting about their experience with our company. To my knowledge MJ's negative experience was not solely the cause of our company, but by her local service shop. The motorcycle she owned has been sold and the current owner has not informed us of a single problem.

In my letter calling for MJ to revise her statements I did force the issue perhaps more than necessary. However, we take each Owner's issues very serious and did not appreciate her exaggeration of the facts. This site and others like it can play an important role in the decision making process for potential owners like you. Misleading information posted on this site contradicts the overall purpose. As a business owner, it is my job to protect the goodwill we have invested in our brand over the past twelve years by treating customers the right way. We try to be accessable to our owners for help when necessary. I believe most owners would agree with that.

Finally, my forceful comments were not directed towards legal action. They were directed towards the site owner to prompt a revision or exclusion, should MJ not have responded with a corrected version of the events. She addressed it. I accepted her revision. I can assure you, Lola, it is not the business of our company to bring lawsuits against our customers. We live by our long standing family motto: Do right and fear not.

Anyone that would like to thoroughly research Ridley Motorcycles should go to RidleyOwners.com. There you will find a forum which includes hundreds of Ridley Owners with an collection of topics.

A friend suggested that I do a little more research on the company before buying. I stumbled here. Although, MJ was not what made me change my mind, Mr. Ridley himself was the deciding factor. The way he threatened a consumer with a lawsuit rang volumes about how they do business.

First off this is America and she is not slandering, she was explaining her experience. You have no basis for a lawsuit Mr. Ridley. I will not be buying a bike for you because nothing bugs me worse than a company that can not take a little criticism. In case you didn't notice there is over 100 complaints on this site alone about your bikes.

would spread such lies about such a great,
and i do mean great company. this is my first
motorcycle i personally owned, but have been around them all, my life. not only do i love
my bike, but have had no problems with it!!
i have had a few problems with the dealer,
but got in touch with Frank at Ridley, and he helped me right away. if the salesperson who sold
me the bike is a jerk, thats not Ridleys fault.
and what company do you know of where the owner
actually calls & e-mailes you back! heres the important part (AFTER HE ALREADY HAS YOUR MONEY)

The Ridley family is very busy, yet they all take
time out of there personal lives, to help us all
out and answer our questions, no matter how stupid they are. (and i have had some stupid ones)they are also helpping us to plan
THE FIRST RIDLEY RALLY in okc this june, to meet them all. does that sound like a family that doesn't care. i think not!

MJ should concentrate her mean spirited energy,
on getting, the bike running and ride it.
she will be much happier! we all have bought cars
and other vehicles, sometimes one might get off the line that isn't perfect, that no reason to
kill the whole company, is it?
shame on you mj

Did you properly fix the bike before you sold it?

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 08, 2006

Or did you do to the buyer what you claimed Ridley did to you? Did you explain to the new buyer the problems you've had with the bike, the bad transmission bearings, the lack of parts availability, the bad service, the very cheaply-made parts, the constant need of expensive repair, and how you got the runaround from Ridley? (your words)

Surely you didn't just take the money knowing you were screwing the buyer, right? That would be a real ripoff that could land you in court.

Retraction-Bike Sold for $4000

AUTHOR: M J - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

I would like to thank Mr. Ridley for giving me the opportunity to retract my original consumer complaint before causing me the additional cost of legal fees. I retract my statement as to the Ridley customer forum being edited and negative remarks not placed on the forum so that a potential buyer can make an educated decision. I have no proof of this.

It is good to know that this site helped Mr. Ridley address areas that needed correction in regard to my original report. I am glad that Ridley Motorcycles took notice of my comments and have addressed the issues that Ridley feels were accurate.

My intent was not to damage Ridley motorcycle's business but to educate consumers. I do not feel that my complaint was inaccurate from my stand point but certainly understand the pride of ownership that Jay Ridley feels. I wish him the best and to all of you who purchase Ridley motorcycles in the future ride safe, enjoy your Ridley because it is a beautiful bike to look at and you do get lots of compliments.

I think this site is an excellent tool for consumers and did not and would not attempt to use this site to mislead anyone. These were the facts from my experience with my Ridley. Take from this account what you will when looking for a motorcycle and motorcycle service. I stand behind my beliefs.

I hope this reply satisfies Jay Ridley and Ridley motorcycles.

If not, it is sad to hear that Ridley feels it necessary to be forced to take action. If Ridley feels deemed to take further action it maybe what Ridley should do but at this time I personally do not intend on taking any further action. However, I have lost enough on this motorcycle and sincerely hope I don't have to lose any more.

POSTED: Tuesday, June 06, 2006

MJ's original complaint is misleading and contains false or wildly exaggerated information. For this reason, Ridley has decided to give MJ the option of deleting this report and filing an accurate report. If she chooses not to revise her statements, we will be forced to take action against MJ.

When used properly, this site is one method to not only educate other potential customers but to help alert companies of area that need correction. We did take notice of MJ's comments and have addressed the issues that were accurate. It is troubling to me, that someone would attempt to use this site to mislead the public.

We kindly ask MJ to revise her earlier statements with information that is accurate.

The Ridley service dealer that I use called Clay Ridley himself and said he thought he should help out even though there was no warranty, which I was well aware of, because this should not be happening to a bike that had only 2300 miles on it. Now 700 miles later the transmission has gone again. So if you can add, start at 3000 and subtract 140 and that is how many miles I rode the bike when it wasn't in the shop.

I do not think the original owner thought she was dumping a bad bike off on me. She, like many people, realize after they buy a bike that they are afraid of riding. I can certainly understand that.

I am selling the bike today as is and will not be worrying about your opinions or Ridleys.

I wish you safe riding and that your Ridley is truly a gem.

MJ, , that could have been 140 miles of hell.

You bought a USED bike, period. The bike was obviously sold by the original buyer for a reason. It doesn't make sense that a 2003 bike would only have 140 miles on it. Maybe it was used in a burn-out contest, raced hard, stolen and recovered (my suspicion), loaned out to an idiot, any number of things, and the seller wanted to dump it quickly. You only know the story the seller told you.

The bike was under warranty for one year from new, Ridley owes you nothing. Your beef is with the guy you bought the bike from. Also, if Ridley buys it back, (and it's not a buy-back, you didn't buy from him) it's purely out of charity. Now you say you're going to fix it and sell it. Fix it and RIDE it! You never did say if you actually rode it, what happened to it, or what parts you tried to buy.

Try calling Harley or Honda and ask them for mechanical help, and see what the tell you. They will say, "Bring it in, we're not training people over the phone." Ridley hasn't "ruined your joy" as I see it. The guy that sold you the used bike, maybe, but not Ridley. He's just an easier target for your anger at being taken.

Mr. Ridley is right that I purchased this bike from an individual. However, he neglected to say the bike only had 140 miles. The purchase price was $18,500. I would expect this bike to be new, but then who am I but just a mere consumer. And to Mr. Ridley I would like to say, I have serviced this bike from day one. It has been in the shop more than it has been at home. Please address the issue as to when the first service should have been done: one mile, 100 miles or 150 miles? As to Mr. Ridley not knowing that I needed help perhaps he should check his phone records from last Tuesday, May 9, 2006.

Mr. Ridley if you would like to purchase the bike at a fair market price please contact Terry Miller at Hawg Wild Cycles. He is one of your service dealers and I have given him permission to sell the bike for me.

Sincerely,
Martha J. Jernigan

This response is directed to Mrs. Martha Jernigan who posted a claim about her experience with our company on this site.

Ridley Motorcycle Company is a relatively small business based in Oklahoma City which manufactures the first and only fully automatic transmission motorcycle. The company's products are innovative which attract a wide variety of riders with all levels of experience from novice to expert. Ridley's products are sold through a network of nearly 60 independent domestic dealerships that represent Ridley to the retail public. Ridley relies on these independent dealerships to assist Ridley Owners in the repair and maintenance of their motorcycles. Because of Ridley's manufacturing capabilities, supplying more than 60 locations with its products is nearly impossible. Our Company's firm commitment to high quality restricts our production. For that reason, Ridley has setup additional Service Centers to help Ridley Owners who live outside a Ridley Dealers territory.

With all of that said, we have tried our very best to operate this company as efficiently as possible. We make every attempt to respond in a timely manner to Ridley Owner's questions and comments. From time to time, emailed questions can get lost among the hundreds of information requests we receive daily. For Owners who have felt that they were not responded in a timely manner, we strongly recommend contacting your nearest Ridley Dealer or Service Center for assistance. With our list of Owners in the several thousands and growing, we are growing as fast as we can but don't always have the systems and personel in place to handle the contacts we receive.

Mrs. Jernigan's situation was not all that unique from the perspective of original ownership. She purchased a motorcycle from an individual and reported her ownership to us on June 1, 2005. The original Owner purchased the motorcycle new from Ridley of the Carolina's on October 4, 2003. That motorcycle was delivered with Ridley's one year unlimited mileage warranty to the original Owner. The original warranty expired on October 5, 2004. Mrs. Jernigan must have been aware that the motorcycle was without warranty when she purchased it pre-owned. Even though the motorcycle technically had no warranty, our Warranty Department made Mrs. Jernigan a deal which discounted the price of a part from $440 to $100. We see Owners that purchase Ridley Motorcycles from private parties as the second or third Owner and want the Factory to guarantee a motorcycle that has not had the prescribed regular maintenance or service performed at the required intervals. Mrs. Jernigan's case was not much different.

I truly appreciate Mrs. Jernigan's business as much as any other Owner. It was never our intention to make her feel as she did. I offer Mrs. Jernigan to contact me directly, as Kim in the above statement did. I would like to assist Mrs. Jernigan in the sale of her motorcycle.

I would also like to note that as a business owner, I rarely get a chance to surf the web to locate a site such as this one. I fully understand the purpose of the site and might have a situation myself to use it. However, if you have a complaint and have not exhausted every possible means to get a hold of the appropriate person who might be able to remedy your issue before posting something on a site like this, not only are you hurting yourself but someone who probably wants to help but doesn't know you need it. I want to help Mrs. Jernigan. I just didn't know she needed my help.

How about directing the owner of Ridley to this site?

There is obviously a design flaw on an otherwise good bike, and maybe he could address the problem and get some good press in the process. I'd hate to see a bike-maker go down the tubes because of mis-treated customers. Bike owners talk to each other, and this could be the kiss of death for Ridley. C'mon, let's see a rebuttal stating that this man's bike was fixed, and fixed correctly.

I wish I had bought Pinkee's 2005 instead of mine because No one can sell these bike once they get it. Clay Ridley did finally return my call. He also spoke to the mechanic who works on my bike. Mr. Ridley offered to give me an upgraded transmission for a SMALL fee. Bike is for sale for $4000 and no one wants it. I paid $11,000 last May and am eating the $7,000 plus extras added. I cannot even trade the bike in our area because no one wants it. I have ridden it 700 miles since the new transmission was put in and guess what? "BAD Transmission again". Clay Ridley's advice this time to the mechanic (who is great by the way)is get new bearings.

I bought a 2005 ridley from daytona bike show and have been very satisfied with it from day one I did have a couple minor problems with the bike and as a 1st time bike owner & driver I went directly to jay ridley who sold me the bike and he told me where in my state which is MD that serviced Ridleys, I did have a problem with that dealer because they didn't want to be bothered and said they Couldn't get a response from Ridley but as I stood in front of the service Mngr there I got on the phone & called Ridley direct and spoke to a person within seconds in which that person spoke to the service mngr and gave them the ok & faxed the info sheet for them to fill out for ridley to send them the part, which was done all in a matter of 15 mins! Then came the kicker 11 phone calls later to the dealer & still no part I was told Ridley did not ship the part, so again I got on the phone directly to Jay Ridley and he gave me the ship date, tracking # which was done the day after the info was faxed, the long & short of this is the dealer signed for the part & then lost it!
I went back to Ridley & asked for help with getting another dealer & got the info within 10 mins, since I've taken by bike to a reputable small custom bike shop for service & work & in the same they said they have never gotten quicker anwsers & parts from any motorcycle than Ridley! I love my Motorcycle & wouldn't change it for anything, I did have some problems but being persistant & having the right avenues helped, and just for the record when we bought the bike from daytona & from the company owner he gave us his cell # and said if we had any questions when we got home call him, and everytime I called he pointed me in the right direction. So I guess maybe you have to be more persistant to get the proper anwsers!!!

I would by another Ridley in a heartbeat!!!
