I saw an advertisement on the classifieds for a house for rent in Great Neck. I contacted the realtor named Avi and we agreed to meet at 5PM in a Starbucks. My wife and I waited for him and he showed up in a big black truck with New Jersey plates.

We went to the house and everything was nice about it. Just bigger, fresh new paint. It fit our budget: A thousand dollars a month and a thousand dollar deposit.

We wasted no time, turned over the money, signed the lease and started moving in. But the big surprise came few days later.

Turns out Avi is really 29-year-old Allen Alijah. He is running a house leasing scam. He would pass a rental listing off as his own and collect payment from prospective tenants.

We are now waiting for the investigation to be over so this scum can get finally charged.
