On May 2, I discovered I could no longer use my Spectrum mobile service to complete phone calls or text messages.  When I logged in online, the account no longer listed my device or phone number as active. 

It turns out Spectrum allowed someone to port my phone number without my knowledge or authorization.  I contacted the company on several occasions on the night of the incident, but agents informed me the company had no idea who stole the number or what company now has the number. 

The following day I visited a Spectrum location.  The representative claimed the blame for the unauthorized access to my account falls on me.  He cited his 20 years of experience told him so. Since my number was compromised, identity thieves use my phone number to access sensitive accounts by receiving text verifications.  I'm also without a phone number to report the issues promptly. 

I filed complaints with the attorney general, the FCC, the BBB, and other institutions, who informed me Spectrum must resolve the issue.  However, all attempts to resolve the theft cordially quickly deteriorate.   Spectrum treats customers in need as a nuisance, and I doubt government intervention will resolve the issues.

The employees are often arrogant, negligent, out-of-touch with their duties, lack product knowledge, get defensive, lack empathy, and seem entirely disinterested in the process. It's frustrating to have your identity compromised, and dealing with the aloof response from companies you've supported for years makes things worse. 

It's also tedious spending hours on hold, especially when the recorded message continually states the customers' security is the utmost concern.
