We contacted All My Sons movers well in advance of moving my 76-year-old mother from her condo at 3600 Lake Shore Drive (a 38 story tower) into The Breakers, a retirement community @ 5333 Sheridan Road on the 16th floor of an elevator building. Both buildings had very strict move-in requirements. We negotiated with each building the movers would begin the move-out on Friday July 6th @1:00 p.m., and complete the move-in immediately after. All My Sons said no problem.

Moving day... the movers don't show up at ALL on Friday. When we call them, they claim they had a delay with the prior move... but they hadn't bothered to call us, even though they have all our cell phone numbers! All my sons agrees they'll come "whatever time, whatever day" the buildings will allow to make up for missing Friday... we'll work it out, they say, including any additional fees the buildings might charge. they claim theyre very sorry!

We renegotiate with a reluctant 3600 L.S.D. to move OUT 12-2 Saturday. not a moment before 12:00, and not a moment after 2:00 says the building. because we have a move before you and a move behind! The breakers agrees to accept a move-in. but not a moment before 5:30 because they have to work around peak use of the elevators. All my sons says "fine".

We send everyone home, with instructions to return tomorrow. My mother is upset. but we calm her down. Saturday we arrive at 11:00 a.m., and the movers are already standing there arguing with the front desk. All my sons worksheet says "start at 11:00" even though they had agreed not to show up a moment before Noon, they're complaining with the building that they need to start now! Amazingly 3600 Lake Shore agrees to allow us to start early.

We get started 1st Surprise. the movers don't have the 4 wardrobes they'd agreed to provide for FREE they find 3 beat-up wardrobes in the truck that WE use our own packing tape to rebuild into usability). 2nd surprise. the foreman didn't know anything about delivering after 5:30, and he throws a hissy-fit and threatens to leave because he doesn't have to take this SH*T, and his son has a baseball game at 6:00, and so he won't stay.

The foreman, after arguing with Mark on the phone, reluctantly agrees to do us a FAVOR and stay You know what Im going to do? Im supposed to pick up your load then pick up a 2nd job deliver the 2nd job and then deliver yours after 5:30 but Im going to blow off the 2nd job and deliver yours.. and then Im going to go home FU** IM he says. But only if we call the Breakers, and get them to accept a move-in prior to 5:30... the 2nd bldg. agrees, but ONLY if he's there to START the move by 3:00! (Suddenly we understand why the movers didn't show up yesterday. I'll be something similar happened with the foreman)

The actual move goes okay. we get OUT of 3600. arrive 10 minutes late at he new building, but the Breakers allows us in. All My Sons now demands to be paid prior to unloading. we attempt to negotiate with Mark, the Owner on the phone, since we feel we're due some consideration due to the full day's delay.

Mark offers us a modest discount of $129.00 off the $741.00 bill (which is $229 higher than the price we were originally quoted.), the concessions theyre willing to make are
1) Theyre not going to charge us for the 3 crappy wardrobes... that they'd originally agreed to provide 4 of them for free!
2) and they're not going to charge us for 4 rolls of OUR "packing tape".. which WE used..
Understandably, we feel this is inadequate. They say "too bad" take it or leave it. They'll refuse to deliver and will take it back to their warehouse, unless we agree. They claim theres an Illinois Law that allows them to hold us hostage, until we pay.

I tell Mark, that Ill reluctantly pay the bill, but I'll notify the Breakers (the people whod recommended him) and anyone else I know (I'm a realtor) that All My Sons sucks and they shouldnt use them, to which he responds "Oh, now you're hurting my feelings!"

Angrily we agree to pay. Only because were being held at gunpoint.

The move-in goes okay. a few glass frames broken, and a piano bench badly scratched which we noticed and noted on their form, a leather couch scratched which we didnt notice until afterward. They say "file a claim.

I feel, after all of the snafus, they owe us more than the $129.00 they gave us. The 4 wardrobes were SUPPOSED to be free we only got 3 bad ones, and had to move lots of clothes by ourselves after the move. They claimed they were crediting us $72.00 for OUR tape.

Don't use this company, they don't care about the consumer, all they care about is their fee, and it'll be higher than you were quoted, and they won't show up on time.
