We called All United Van Lines after receiving numerous moving quotes online as theirs was comparable to others with the exception that we wanted them also to move a motorcycle for us.  No one ever came to the house to give a real need quote, they changed our move date 3 times and then when they came they came in a truck big enough to move only have of what we were trying to move and no identifying logo's that should have been my first warning.  I signed the contracts in good faith like any other move we have made (which I have done several times).  I had done all my own packing and so it was just pick up and move.  We moved across country from UT to SC.  At the end of the day I watched as the driver and his 2 workers close the door to the van and start to leave.  The driver comes back into the house has me sign the necessary forms and as I wait for him to sign the forms he is putting my copies in one pile his in an envelope and then says that I owe not quite over twice their quote.  I am thinking ok we went over and write a check to All United Van Lines but am then told the check was supposed to be made out to V & G Van Lines.   Wow then I started realizing things are not right.  The next thing that I know is that the driver is pushing all my papers into an envelope while telling me they left their materials in my garage, will be back in the morning to pick up the rest of my goods and all their materials.  And then to top every thing off the driver tells me I will owe another 5,250 + dollars in cash or postal money order at the end of our move.  So we were looking at over $10,500.  I was also told when they came and retrieved the remaining items from our move the price would increase because we were adding to the cubic feet and all would be decided then on the final total.   The driver then climbed in his truck and drove off.  My spouse who was already on the other end of our move called the offices and asked them to turn around and bring our goods back and we were told they would for $1500.  This was within 10 min.  Then after we spoke between ourselves the driver was contacted by us and he said it would be $1600 if he brought it back but his manager had instructed him to go ahead and take it on to the storage base.  The next morning after we had cancelled the move and the check the previous evening we called and asked when they would bring everything back and told they would for $2800  but that was more than our original quote.  So here it is now 2 months later and we are still trying to retrieve our household goods.   We have found that our bill to this company is well over $15000 due to storage fees being added daily and everything went to the west coast instead of to the east coast.  Talk about being RIPPED OFF!!!   We don't even have names to file a decent police report and no attorney wants to take this case on.  We have lost everything we have every owned and inherited, our children's/grandchildren's pictures and all the family geneology.

I Would Do This....

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 27, 2011

I would immediately contact the folks at www.moverescue.com and let them know immediately what has happened.  This mover (All United) has done this numerous times this summer (just read ROR if you don't believe me) and this company consisting of lawyers and other such persons who know the moving industry, can intercede on your behalf and get your items back.  Do this as soon as possible!!

By the way, the reason all of the quotes you received online were reasonable is because all scam movers reside on the internet.  All of them low-balled you.  If you contacted someone well-known and had them quote you, you would have found out what moving really costs.  Reputable movers make (at most) 5% profit on every move, so if an online mover quotes you something a lot lower than one of the reputable movers....you're going to be scammed and pretty badly.

Best of luck to you!!
