As a former manager of Allen Anderson I find the earlier entry very interesting. Allen Anderson INC, who is owned by Scott Mendrum is a company that has a very short future. I agree with the substance of the earlier complaint. The owner will do anything to make the all mighty dollar regardless of who has to be lied too, cheated, or frauded. Should you due a BBB background on door company's, you will find that of the top eight company's who have well over 200 plus years of experience in the Twin Cities area combined have only five BBB complaints. Yet, Allen Anderson who has been in business for a few years has well over 40 complaints.

As a former employee I have witnessed Allen Anderson over charge customers, switch products, commit several counts of consumer fraud, mail fraud, and even tax evasion. Allen Anderson has few actual employees, the sales force and installers are all sub-contractors. Allen Anderson does not pay their taxes, provide medical, un-employment, social security, or benefits of any kind. In fact there are 20 factors that the IRS uses in determaning the legitimy of a sub-contractor. No company can fail more then 3 factors and be within the law.

Allen Anderson has failed 19 of the 20 factors. His tactics are to quote a very small price over the phone and then up-sell you whne arriving to your residence. In the event a custom balks, Allen Anderson will again attempt to up-sell you at installation. This tactic has upset many customers and yet made Allen Anderson a huge sum of money.

The industry has received so many complaints that the BBB is holding ethics meetings once a month to attempt to clean up company's like Allen Anderson, however, as you know with any non-profit orginization they are extremely slow to move. I encourage anyone who reads this not to conduct business with Allen Anderson.

DO NOT become another victim of Allen Anderson and DO NOT spend money with a company who will not be in business in the near future.

That was not my experience

AUTHOR: Michael Wbl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 20, 2008

While I have no ability to refute the factual nature of the report by the nameless manager, I am happy to let folks know that I had no such experience. While there was one attempt at an up sell (to better wheels), I don't fault them for that. I waited tables for years, and up selling is as much offering them a better product if they are interested as it is increasing sales. Interestingly, the up sale came not from my sales rep, who could not have been nicer, more professional, or more helpful, but from the woman in the office who was making (or confirming) the time of installation. The installer, by the way, was great. (He ended up gifting us with better wheels anyway. Was he supposed to? I don't know. I saw the metal (cheaper) wheels there so I know that part was not a scam.

The points of subcontracting make no sense to me. I have hired home depot a number of times, knowing they use sub-contractors...so what? (Many sub-contractors are responsible for their own withholdings, and subcontracting negates the need for providing insurance, etc. How was this part relevant? If the IRS really had a problem with them, I think they would handle it. Sounds a bit like a failed attempt at unionizing...) I like that the company stands behind the end result (in both cases.) When we thought we saw scratches on the door, we called and a manager was there in short order. (We didn't notice the day of install.) It turned out they were plastic rubs which came off with some elbow grease, but he didn't come off at all as one who was trying to slide anything by us. He, too, was helpful and professional.

Maybe we are the exception. I can't say. But know that some do have good experience with Allen Anderson, perhaps more than that report led you to believe.

The Truth

AUTHOR: Former manager - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 02, 2008

Obviously the last person we made an entry is mistaken. Im clearly not a competitor and in fact have had nothing to do with the garage door industry for the last six months. Additionally, I left Allen Anderson on August 15th of 2007. On August 17th I filed a complaint with the SS-8 Department of the Internal Revenue Service about being employed as a subcontractor while employed at Allen Anderson. Last week Im happy to say the IRS ruled in my favor. I received a complete package with W-2s to redo my taxes for 2006 and 2007. I noticed this evening on Angies List Allen Anderson claims to have 30 employees and does not use subcontractors. In fact Allen Anderson installers and sales force were all 1099 employees. I will be contacting Angie List and informing them that Allen Anderson is again not telling the whole truth. I received an excellent article from the International Door Industry that did an article of trouble in Minnesota with the door industry.

In that article they specifically talked about the business practices of Allen Anderson and how they were kicked out of the BBB because of huge volumes of complaints. The article stated that the BBB said Allen Anderson has one of the worst records in the nation. I could careless of what the person thinks that wrote the last comments. The fact are simple, the IRS is now looking very closely at Allen Anderson and will be taking appropriate action against the company for a litany of acts that violate IRS regulations and Federal Law. The BBB revoked Allen Anderson membership due to an outrageous amount of complaints, and the International Door Industry did an article referring to Allen Anderson as a less then creditable company.

My goal is simple, to protect the unaware consumer from making a mistake like the 51 (to date) people who have filed complaints for several reasons after doing business with Allen Anderson. I encourage everyone to go to www.BBB.com and look up each door company before spending any money.

The BBB Takes Action

AUTHOR: Former Manager - (U.S.A.)

I'm sure some of you read the comments from an employee that simply is another lier currently employed at Allen Anderson. I would recommend that when conducting business with Garage Door Companies you go to www.bbb.com and look at the companies track record. Should you look up Allen Anderson you will now see the the BBB has suspended them due to continued complaints. In fact the employee who commented earlier has been a driving force by racking up those complaints. I encourage you to take a few minutes and grab the phone book as a refference and look up every company before spending money and causing yourself huge problems. Allen Anderson has proven time and time again that they do not conduct ethical practices and finally the BBB has taken action against them. Again, the top five garage door companies do several times the volume of Allen Anderson and combined they don't have one tenth the complaints. Take your time chosing a company to replace or repair your door, but I seriously caution you should you have Allen Anderson come to your residence. Don't become another complaintant with the BBB.

This is the MOSt funny thing I have heard

WOW.... former manager..... or should I say STEVE JOHNSON. Such a big lie that you can not even use your real name huh?!

If we received too many complaints with the BBB then how come we are a member that has a satisfactory record with them.... because the complaints compared to sales is very minimal.

You are the most biggest LIAR I have ever met on the face of this planet.Pretty much EVERY aspect of your report is a flat out lie and you are a sick human being. Do you need extra sales that much that you want to come on here and bash the company. You worked here for how long? If you thought the company was this bad why did you continue to work here? Allen Anderson IS going to be in business in the near and long future no matter what you do Steve. Other than a pissed off employee from how long ago you are the 1st report on here, I think that says A LOT doesn't it.

I laughed my butt off when I read this and knew it was you with the first line. I will be laughing about this for a long time to come because this is plain old childish and my six year old can come up with a better lie than you.
