I had a gout attack affecting my left foot on February 20th and had to stay home for a week. I brought in a doctor's note stating an excused absence for that week. Exactly a month later, on March 20th, I had another attack, this time on my right foot. I once again had to miss a week from work.

When I returned to work after the first attack, I requested that I use a weeks worth of my vacation time to cover the time that I missed. Because this was a Friday, and my account manager said that he sends the hours in on Thursday, that it was to late for me to apply the vacation days. Now I know that all he had to do was to call corporate and tell them to apply the vacation time, but I let it go. He said that, in the future that I need to remember to let him know BEFORE he sends payroll hours in.

When I returned to work after the second attack, I again gave the account manager a doctor's excused absence letter and I once again requested that I use a weeks worth of my vacation time to cover the time that I missed. THIS time I DID request it BEFORE he sent the payroll hours in. The account manager very firmly stated "NO!". I thought that he was kidding at first, but then it was obvious that he was serious. I asked him why not and he stated the "Corporate" said that because I missed 2 weeks in a 30 day period, and that I caused them to pay the other guards overtime, that they were going to take all of my vacation time away from me, along with all of my other benefits. I would be treated as if I was a new employee and not be eligible for benefits until 30 days from when I came back and not be eligible for vacation time until another year has passed.

I have been employed with Allied Barton for over 3 years, have very rarely missed any days during those 3 years, (other than the 2 weeks mentioned above), nearly EVERY day that I am scheduled to work, I have come in at least 30 minutes early and most of the time stay 30 minutes past my scheduled post time, but have never received any additional pay for this time. I am always one of the first that they will call when they need someone to fill in for someone that has called out or on vacation. I am a very dedicated and conscientious worker, always have been, always will be.

As of today, 16Apr11, they have not taken any benefits or vacation hours away from me. But my last 2 paychecks have both been half of what they normally would be, because they refused to allow me to use my vacation hours to make up for the time that I was out sick.

I have since sent corporate FMLA forms for any future flare up from my gout.

This company is the worse company that I have EVER worked for. There have been MANY other broken promises that were given to me by my account manager. What it boils down to is that this company does not care, AT ALL, about it's guards.

Benefits...not law

AUTHOR: Mallboss - ()

POSTED: Saturday, October 05, 2013

It is important to remember that vacation time is a benefit and not law. So is earning  any pay above minimum wage. The company had every right to take your vacation time away, you had already been out two weeks, and overtime pay negates any profit that would have been made. Man up and call it a learning experience!

Update.... They did it!!!!!

AUTHOR: Frustrated Guard - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 01, 2011

On, May 10th, 2011, Allied Barton "removed" me from the post I had been at for the past 3 years.... this happened 2week after I filed my FMLA papers. My pay was cut from $10.34 an hour to $8.50 an hour. They claim that it was because of some stupid thing that one of the other guards did, but because of the fact that I was the shift supervisor at the time, I was being punished for it. Pretty damned weird that they came up with this exactly 2 weeks after I filed FMLA papers. To bad my boss (the account manager) didn't have the balls to stand up for his people. It's really sad the way that Allied Barton treats it's employee and gets away with it time after time.
