I purchased a second home in Michigan in August of 2007. In good faith I purchased the AHS Home Warranty plan which I signed per my realtor's suggestion and filed it with my mortgage papers. The second home was 50 years old so the home warranty was felt to be a good thing to do.

On Sunday, the Sunday before the 2008 New Years Day, our furnace started to leak carbon monoxide. At the time this occured it was freezing weather outside. I immediately call the local gas company and they responded right away and said that we had a carbon monoxide leak and then he turned off the gas supply to the furance and recommened we not turn it on until it was fixed.

My AHS policy was with my mortgage papers in another city so I did not have access to them while this happened.

I proceeded to try and find a company that would come out on this 4 day New Years Weekend and did find one company in the area of my second home that agreed to come.

They found the carbon monoxide level in the area of the furnace to very extremely high. After reviewing the hot water boiler system (50 year old systmem) they found the leak area and determined that it could not be repaired but that the furnace would need to be replaced.

To avoid freezing pipes in the whole house, I asked them to proceed with the work which they did.

On New Years day I found the AHS number to call to inform them of the situation that I had and that the work was complete. They immediately told me the the work would not be covered by their warranty because I did not call them first. I have sent them two separate letters asking for reconsideration and they keep repeating their statement that I failed to call them first for approval.

This is one of many problems I have with this, or any, website. No checking for facts, no verifying information. This complaint has absolutely NOTHING to do with Warranty America in ANY way. This should be removed and placed on the correct company's name - American Home Shield, or whatever it is.
