In November 2002 my wife still had a lease for a Honda Passport - we were attempting to turn the vehicle back in to the dealership as she was ready to purchase a regular passenger vehicle again.

She contacted the dealership and was informed that we had to schedule a time when we could drop off the vehicle for final inspection, sign a document then turn the keys over to the dealership.

We attempted and have documented a list of people, dates and times that she spoke with at both the dealership as well at the location (across the street from the dealership) where they would be handling the inspection - each time they were too busy to do the inspection. This went on for nearly 4 weeks.

Finally she was able to get an appointment the first week of January - the inspection literally took less than 90 seconds we signed the paperwork, in front of a witness, and off we went.

One year later we received a letter from American Honda Finance staing that we were responsible for the entire year's taxes because the vehicle was turned in the following calendar year, by one week.

Had this been brought to our attention I would have waited in line outside the door of the inspection office for the first person available to do the 90 second inspection.

Since then we have been harrassed by too many people to count for $400 worth of taxes.

We had already purchased a new vehicle - the Passport sat outside our garage for so long I was cutting grass around it to the point that the city where we lived asked me what my intentions were with this vehicle as it was breaking the neighborhood's covenant by parking on the grass.

The dealership would not allow us to leave the vehicle on the lot, we couldn't leave it on the lot of the inspection office.

When I called the Irving, Texas office to challenge them about the bill I spoke with a Supervisor named Mark who put me on hold for literally 20 seconds and was (SUPPOSEDLY) about to search back one year to the time when I was trying to set an appointment to turn in the Passport and came back and said that "no - there was not any reason why I couldn't have turned it in." - But yet when we tried to they were backed-up. Go figure.

There is not an email address on Honda's website to inform anyone of this - Mark told me that his supervisor(s) immediately above him worked on the board in Japan - (cummon).

He refused to give me a name or number to his immediate boss.

In other words by being stalled a month's time American Honda Finance to turn in the Passport they are trying to get $400 from us to pay for the entire year's taxes - NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

THE STATE ATTOURNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT THAT FIRST!
