I never actually attended any of the classes on-line with AIU because I questioned the cost of tuition, not knowing if I would really be able to afford it. I have a unique situation when it comes to financial aid so I always have a hard time getting it. My so-called advisor called me almost everyday and never once acknowledged the fact that I did not think my financial aid would come through.

After about 3 weeks, I finally logged on and spoke with one of the Instant Message Reps, who told me that I had missed the deadline to withdraw. I think that the advisor should have told me that even though I was not attending classes, I was still being charged for them. Had I known that she made it appear that I was financially cleared on her end, I would have at least got my money's worth and attended those classes. When I finally did withdraw, I was told that I had to pay them over $1000. When I tried to get back in contact with the advisor who was so easily accessible prior to my withdrawal, I was given the runaround and never was able to speak to her.

AIU has since turned my account into collections and now I owe over $1000! I think that is ridiculous! The whole thing could have been avoided if the advisor would not have neglected to tell me that I was accumulating debt with AIU the entire time I was trying to financially clear. I feel like she purposely drew out the process so that they would get money out of me no matter what the outcome with my financial aid was.
