We bought our neptune washer in November of 1998, one of the first modles out, that was our first mistake. I was very pleased with the washer at first, then the trouble started.

Before the warranty went out we had some work done, the washer stopped draining, the upper control panel was replaced.

About every 6 months since then we have had nothing but trouble.

When the service center was called either by myself or the repair person they would always say "it's a machine and they do break down". But I would think that when you pay 1,100.00 for a washer it would last more than 3 years.

So far we have had upper control panels replaced, lower control panels, door lock, rubber boot(which was a recall, but still had to pay for the labor), drain tubbing, and some others that I can not remember. Each time I would call the service center to see if they could help in some way, they would tell me that is was out of warranty and it was up to me to fix it.

At one point a factory rep was called in, and he did get the parts replace at no cost, I still paid for the labor.

All of this seems to be the same problem, it will not go through the rinse cycle and will not drain.

Now the washer is almost 6 years old, and broke down again.

The reason we bought the Maytag Neptune is because it was suppost to be the top of the line and the best you could buy. Boy were we fooled! This machine has been the worse piece of sh** I have ever owned. And Maytag claims to stand behinde thier products, wrong again.

At this piont I am ready to move it out to the front yard and put a BIG LEMON sign on it.

One would think that as much as this thing cost it would last more than a few years. My Kenmore lasted for more than 20 years and had very little problems.

I think the idots at Maytag service center think that the consumers are stupid, or at least that is the way they like to make you feel. Maybe if they went through the same problems that some of the rest of us have gone through they would be a little more understanding.

I would like to see something done about this problem.
Fix the d**n thing right or replace it!

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Cheated in Charlotte

AUTHOR: Cindy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 29, 2004

We too have had identical problems with the Maytag stackable washer/dryer. Our's is not even two years old. We are on Service visit number seven (if we can get through to schedule the appointment)and our machine still does not spin and it never has. We've replaced several parts. Our solution is to go after the Appliance store where we bought the Maytag. We are naming them in a potential lawsuit as being just as responsible as the manufacturer. Somebody needs to stand up to this company and put a stop to this now. I can't emphasize enough the frustration this has caused, as well as missed work days, and ruined clothes. The machine cost $1800 and is absolutely useless. We have asked the appilance store (via a certified letter) to replace our washer and dryer with any brand but a Maytag and to refund the difference and finally to join the thousands of consumers frustrated by this product and refuse to sell them. They have clout with the manufactures since they are selling for them so we will work our way back to Maytag via the seller. We'll let you know what the outcome is. We have exhausted all other efforts.

I know how you feel, I have just paid $276 to replace the motor in my Maytag Neptune Dryer and the very next day the circuit board on the washer broke. I urge you to check http://maytagproblems.com/
and maybe something good will come of it

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

The Maytag Neptune is still just a washer

AUTHOR: RJ - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 14, 2004

I have a ton of empathy for anyone that has or had a washer that has had to be serviced. However most of the people complaining about having things replaced on these Neptune washers are first not using these machines properly and secondly these same consumers tend to live in areas where they are subject to power fluctuations that cause these boards to go out. I used to worke for Maytag and bought one of the very first Neptune washer the MAH3000AWW in 1997. I sold that unit along with the matching dryer to my sister in law in 2002 and never had a service call done on it. I purchesed the MAH5500BWW which is the current washer and still no problems. I work for a service company that works on these units and all you here from people that have to have their unit serviced is how could it happen. Because it is Maytag people feel it should never breakdown no matter how they use the unit. We have knowledge now that if someone is using regular detergent as opposed to the HE detergent that is recommended it will cause undue wear on the motor and the drain pump in draining excess sudsing. This is a problem that if left uncheck will cause the machine to make noises as if a bearing is loose. This would result in a very expensive repair. Maytag has sold hundreds of 1000's of these units but there are the few that have received units that may have had something wrong with them which happens to all manufacturers. They call those lemons. If there was a problem with all the models Maytag would have been forced to recall the units as say a Firestone did with their tires. In the end the washing machine can only work as well as it is treated. When someones brakes go low on a car you know to change them every 3 - 4 years. Unfortunately there is no timetable for the average American to know that sometimes appliances need maintenance too. Once again I am very sorry for the problems you have had but you are still in the minority of washing machines owners. The average washing machine lasts only 6 years with all manufacturers considered. Right now you are at the sixth year. Best of luck to you and next time get an extended warranty.
