Last week we were in the Home Depot on Wickham Road in Melbourne, Florida and we were approached by a woman in regards to air conditioning. We do not know if this was an employee of Home Depot or of ARS, but she worked hard to convince us that we needed ARS to come by and "Tune Up” our system. We were a little suspicious because the cost was only $9.00, but we figured we would get some kind of sales pitch, and we were willing to do this, as ARS had installed our system.

The appointment was for a time period between 10 am and 1 pm on Thursday, May 24th. I called ARS at 10 am to confirm that we were home and expecting service. I called again at 1:15 to find out when to expect arrival and I was told we were "next in line”, and called again at 3:45 and was told that the representative was about 5 minutes away from our home. Please note that all these calls were made by me, and I did not receive any update phone calls from them. THIS IS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, As expected, the repairman’s first order of business was to suggest that they install some sort of UVC system for a cost of about $1200.00 which I declined.

The man went on to inspect all the parts of the system inside the garage, which he found to be clean without problems. When he went outside and opened the compressor housing he almost immediately told me that the "Kickstart” was going bad and should be replaced at a cost of $480.00. I agreed to the repair and he installed a Rectorseal Kickstart KS1 . He then took the old part out to his truck and in that short period of time the Kickstart that he installed actually exploded. He then wanted to turn off the electric current to the system and discovered that the circuit breaker had been tripped.

At this point I instructed him to re-install the original part which was in working condition, which he did and then he left. I got curious about what exactly a "Kickstart” is, so I "googled it” and found out that it is a Potential Relay and Start Capacitor. The KS1 made in China for Rectorseal is available for the sale on the internet for $39.95. ARS was going to charge us $480.00. Before the item exploded it only took the repairman less than 5 minutes to install it. THIS IS UNETHICAL AND IMMORAL. IT IS ROBBERY!
