Complaint Review: Bank of America

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

Bank of America is relentless in their collection of overdraft/NSF fees.  They are unwilling to negotiate even a good-faith credit for a customer that has been with them 8 years.

I made a mistake and overdrew my checking but immediately recitified it by adding the amount back to the account in less than 24 hours.

I contacted customer service who refused to credit the fee.  They used their "canned" responses and encouraged me to sign up for overdraft protection (yeah, ok)...

Whey they would even pay the check in the first place is beyond me.  I didn't have the funds, they should have rejected the transaction but no...they want to allow this so they can collect their precious NSF fee of $35.

Further complaints up the chain resulted in no difference, I got the same canned response again from another person.  It's clear BOA does not care about their customers, they only care about profits.  If this is how they treat an 8 year customer with no history of NSF fees, it's a bad sign.

If you are considering opening an account with Bank of America, I would be very cautious and personally I would not recommend them to any of my friends or family.  They are only in business to gouge people.

Anyone can make a mistake...

AUTHOR: Starvros - () happens. Thing is Bank of America is not going to care about keeping you as a customer hence you will never get good old fashioned "service" from them. Granted you admit to a mistake so rightfully they can collect the fee and it is not a rip off per say...just business as usual for them.

You might want to consider a local credit union. Not to say they are all the same but my mom for example is a total space case and does forget to make deposits. A few weeks ago she was out of state and was incurring an overdraft. The credit union called her and she explained she messed up and forgot to make a deposit before she left. They told her "don't worry just make a deposit when you get back, we got you covered"..and NO FEE!!!!

Now that is customer service from a company that shows by example they WANT to keep my mom as a customer. NEVER will you get that from Bank of America unless you were Donald Trump etc.

Accept responsibility

AUTHOR: coast - ()

"recitified it by adding the amount back to the account in less than 24 hours"

Your deposit of the necessary funds on the following business day does not rectify the fact that the funds were not available at the time the check was presented for payment.

"they should have rejected the transaction but no...they want to allow this so they can collect their precious NSF fee of $35."

You would have been charged the same NSF fee if the check had not been paid. This way you received the same penalty from the bank but were not charged an additional fee by the merchant (if it was a merchant) and avoided possible embarrassment.

"If this is how they treat an 8 year customer with no history of NSF fees, it's a bad sign."

One NSF penalty for one overdraft in eight-years is fair. Accept responsibility for your actions and move on.

Why would you expect a business to give two shakes of a rats a** about you? Its a bank. They dont just make money. Having a account comes with certain responsabilites. One of them is to know how much money you have to work with. To expect that you will be treated ANY differently then ANY other customer is the pinnacle of SELF ENTITLMENT. Are you Trump? Obama? A Saudi oil prince? If you are none of these, then the bank isnt going to care about your SOB story. Its a business, if they make an exception for you then they have to make it for everyone else. There would be no bank then. This is the cost of doing business. You over drew your account, the bank was kind enough to allow the purchase to go through. There is a fee involved with thier kindness. EVERY BANK DOES THIS!!!

Dont get mad at the bank for what is your mistake. They have a job to do. They do it quite well. Next time dont buy something if your not sure if you have the cash.

No...Keep Better Records!

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

The ONLY reason someone gets overdraft fees, is because THEY GAVE THEMSELVES these fees because they don't keep records!  Nobody needs to live this way!  All you need to do is keep a check register and running balance!
