Back in August of 2001 I had rented three movies from Blockbuster in Pittsburg, California. Was I suprised when I got a over due notice on the movies I returned??? NO. It happened every single time I rented movies from this shady company. It seemed that this is a standard business practice of BLOCKBUSTER Video. I had written and called the store on numerous occassions to no avail.

Now they have miraculously found the movies (3 months later) and have sent me to collections for the late charges that now total over $37.

I feel like I am banging my head against a brick wall with this company that is either in the practice of hiring totally ignorant people or ripping off customers is just part of their business practice. I refuse to pay for late charges on movies that have been returned and ontime for that matter. I will never rent movies from BLOCKBUSTER again and as far as I am concerned will not even by a BLOCKBUSTER Pay Per View on my satellite system

Keep your receipts

AUTHOR: B. - ()

POSTED: Thursday, June 06, 2002

I too had a late charge ripoff. The way I caught them on it was by keeping my receipts. The rep told me that I had rented so and so movie and I agreed, then he told me that I returned it on so and so a date.

I knew that date could not be true, so since I rent movies there a lot, I had rented movies several times after the date of the return but was never told before that there was a late charge due on the account. I went home and got in my receipt file found the receipts and could proove that I shouln't have a late charge because there were 2 other receipts since the date he said it was returned with no late charges on them.

They recinded the late charge and also gave me free rentals to compensate me. I know it sounds crazy to save a receipt from a movie rental, but you never know when they will come in handy. I have received phone calls from our local store as little as one day after the movie is due back also. This company acts as if they are nearly into bankruptcy. As long as I pay for my late charge, what difference does it make to them?

Also, the second rebuttal to this report has nothing to do with the original complaint. What's up with that?

Regarding Blockbuster Late fees...

AUTHOR: Carly - ()

POSTED: Sunday, April 14, 2002

I see that a lot of people disagree with the Blockbuster late fees. I dont see what the big deal about them is. I know when I go to Blockbuster they are due back at noon,as seen on the case, the door and said by the rep. Given,it can be a *&$#% to be up and have them there at noon, but I still do it because thats their policy. Think of it this way,if you really want to see a movie, and its all sold out, wouldnt you hate it if some person whos renting it decides to keep the movie longer then expected? Ive had some late fees myself and its my own fault,I was too lazy or too busy to have it there at noon,So I made the best of it and watched the movie again, getting my moneys worth. Point is,if you really hate the noon policy, then buy the movie. I think noon by the 2 day or 5 day rental is plenty of time. You could be returning the movies, instead of typing on here about how blockbuster sucks so much.
