I have had a blockbuster account for close to 6 years, hardly used, but never had any problems until today.

Some how my credit card information got used on my mothers account. I would imagine that it was her or my brother somehow, but that is on my end. I recently had a fee on my bank statement for $31.xx. I called up the store where it happened (Oakville Missouri Telegraph) and asked what this charge was for. The lady on the other end explained that it was for movies that had not been returned on time.

I had heard of this before and didn't have a problem, except for it was not my account and i did not rent the movies. I explained that i did not rent the movies and that they would be returned shortly, and asked her to put a hold on the account until that happened so that if the movies were not checked out by my family (someone stole their card or something of that nature) that they would not be able to rent any other movies, or if it was my family that they would know to change the credit card information.

She told me that because it is not my account (is my mothers) that she could not do anything to help me. I tried to explain again that the card being charged is not my mothers and that i do not want to be charged. She refused to help until the movies were returned.

I find this very unsatisfactory customer service and bad business practice. I would recommend finding a different video store, or use an online video store over blockbuster. They have been in business a long time but are getting very sloppy with customer service.

The the rr against bbv creator...
There really isn't anything the person on the phone can do for you. They don't know who you are for sure and there's no way they're going to remove a CC from an account once it's already there...
In order to properly get it removed, I would suggest (and they would probably prefer) that you go to the store, show ID and the card, then ask that it's removed because the account it's on is not yours.

Having said that, this is not a "rip-off" but an error on your part that the company, ie. store your family and you deal with, was unable to deal with to suit your needs. The account got charged rightly so, and whomever you gave your card to, you should go to them for that.

Now, LuckyLady. I wouldn't say "lying," if you're told you need a credit card to rent. By now, most districts are going by what the DM is saying and are being told to relay that any account must be created with a credit card to rent...and that we also have the update most all accounts. No, you don't NEED a cc on file, as of right now, unless you're renting games, but it's up to the store manager and the district manager and what they want to do.

It's your credit card - who did you loan it to?

The credit card could not gotten onto your mother's account unless the card itself was handed to a cashier. YOU are responsible for your credit card. Not us. If you don't want it on the account, visit a local store and ask to have it removed. It's YOUR card, it's YOUR right to remove it. If they won't remove it because it's your mother's accound and you're not on it, explain that its YOUR card, not hers. If they still won't remove it, contact the district manager. Their number is posted on a large poster behind the main counter where all the new releases and prices are posted.

A credit card is NOT required unless you are renting games. If they tell you it is, they're either lying or a franchise store.

Ask the store if they are franchise or corporate. If it's franchise, anything can happen pretty much but they should still follow standard operation procedures.

Good luck and don't give up on renting movies. It's still a cheap form of entertainment.
