I ordered a Connect3D 2GB Secure Digital Card for $50 that was supposed to be free with rebate, however, never received the rebate. Buy.com apparently honored a few..but when Connect 3D completely folded, Buy.com quit honoring the rebate.
They say they are taking Connect 3D to court....wouldn't they save a lot more $ by just reimbursing those who purchased the card? Won't buy from them as have seen ratings go down..and can't trust their information.

Rebates are usually paid by third-party companies contracted by manufacturers, not by retailers. This means Nokia, Samsung, HP, Dell and other retailers pay for the rebates, not Fry's Electronics, Circuit City, Best Buy, Amazon.com or Buy.com. Consumers blame the retailers because the retailers advertise the rebates, but the retailers are not the ones who originate the rebates nor are the retailers the ones who pay the rebates.
Conclusion: If you can, try to buy products that are on sale, i.e., discounted, but without rebate offers. I have purchased a printer and then I received a mailed $80 rebate and I have also purchased hard drives where I did not receive the $50.
