Camco rep called and claimed I owed them $4500.00USD from a debt I claimed in a bankruptcy in 1987. I have gone on and rebuilt my credit and this was the first I heard of this. I went on line to look this company up and of course it brought me here first-thank goodness!

I was going to send them copies of my court docs that fortunately I had kept for just such a circumstance but after reading all the reports I decided it was a much too sensitive doc to send them even a copy of . I then chose to ignore them. Now I received a letter from them stating that if I paid them the sum of close to $2600.00USD instead of their outrageous claim of $9754.00USD they would settle for that. I was completely furious. I cannot believe the audacity of these people.

Erika,

You may want to contact either the Attorney or the bankruptcy court where your papers are filed. Any time a Bankruptcy takes place, creditors are notified, and allowed to respond as to whether they should or should not be included in the action. If the original creditor failed to follow up on the contact, it is their tough luck.

Probably what has happened, in reading all these complaints, is that CAMCO has gotten outdated account information included amongst good collectable papers, has the wherewithal to pull credit reports, and viola, gathered your old account info from there. Not every creditor updates their info with the bureaus to show that their entry has "Been Included In Bankruptcy", and therefore they are making an attempt to collect on an account that may or may not have been contracted to them!!

Also, I hope others are checking with all complaints on this subject, do not start a Class action suit. This will involve finding others that have been ripped off, and whatever settlement is awarded by the court will have to be shared by all the parties incolved in said suit. I am not sure, but would expect the legal fees for the attorney to be paid thru the settlement in this type of case, you will receive more monies for your damages if you file separately.
