Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

I bought an Oldsmobile Olero, May 2007 from CarHop. My payments were faithfully made, on time each month for more than a year. When the car wouldnt start and I had to pay for a tow, I called UAC, the lending company.

I talk to Mark, a rep, to make arrangements to defer my payments so I could use the money to have my car repaired . At first he told me I was a good customer who paid on time and that I should just send them a repair estimate and they would help me.

Well I tried to get a definite answer from him and he started back peddling and talking over me, when I finally asked him if I could talk; he said "NO"!
Who do they employ at UAC? This man was acting as if he was doing me a favor and talking to me like I was one of his kids. This overpriced car is half paid for and it would be wise to adjust my payments until I can get it repaired at my expense.

Then I could finish paying off this car and we could part ways, for good. I would not suggest anyone buy a car from CarHop. I will be contacting the Attorney General and I would be interested in joining a class action lawsuit

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

It is what it is, face value!

AUTHOR: Quackers - (U.S.A.)

1St thing carhop don't make there customers even carry any insurance at all...

2nd as for the selling the car at auction and being sued and garnished, Carhop don't do this as for most of the customers are either making the absolute bare amount and will only get like 20.00 per check, and the other 90% are not working.

Next is this....
At CarHop we do offer an 18mo, or 18,000 mile Limited Warranty and if there is a repair thats needed and covered by your warranty, the warranty will pay the parts, labor and the shops diagnostic fees. If the repair is not covered by your limited warranty you would be responsible to the shop for their diagnosis at that time.

When you get the car it has paperwork that tells when and whats covered, I have been told by shops before that when a customers automatic transmission was slipping they refused repair because it was still drivable, they said when it goes out well replace it then....

I know of several times a car was a buy back because the car needs a motor and transmission pretty soon after the customer gets the car, whats carhop do oh lets put them in another car and send them on the way and order the motor and transmission from that junk yard and put the car on the lot to sell until that parts ready and that's cars sold to the next customer and it fails its sitting on the lot with a motor and transmission that's ready to go out....

Carhop does there sales on a 12 step program, funny I know... its called the KP1, the sales staff has to be able to do the K1 script at a 90% at test time otherwise they don't get the 20.00-45.00 commission for selling cars until they test again. They are tested at least every 3 months to ensure they are using the script to sell cars with.

Carhops car sales are set up on a line system as for say this 1999 Escort they got at an auction for 2000.00 and they do over pay for the cars they get from the auction "trade ins are a different story" now that 2000.00 99 ford escort that's worth 500.00 lets say its a line 6 car (around 5000-5995) now if that car quits before it gets sold and is sent to a shop for say a motor, after a 500.00 junk yard motor is sent add labor and there is a grand more to the 2000 so now they have say 3,000 in the car and now it goes from a line 6 car to a 9 or 10....

I have known of cars to come in with not actual mileage, and they would send the cars back to the buyers or to the auto auction and wouldn't keep the car, however I have also seen cars come in that looks and smells of mold mildew and nasty water and one even had dead fish in the trunk and mold growing in it... take a guess where the car with the water dead fish and mold in it went, yeah your right to a detail shop and then right on the lot to be sold!

The payments are set up to go off your pay dates if the person that sold you the car had been going off the KP1 script of maybe you wasn't listening either way its all built around how you get paid a payment each payday helps them collect as much money as they can before the consumer lets the car go back or wrecks it....if you get paid weekly its a weekly payment, bi weekly is every two weeks and semi monthly is two on the same day every month and once a month is one payment a month....

if you bring home after taxes and bills under 1,000.00 you wont get a car as you don't income qualify at this time, but if your situation changes let us know and I'm sure we can get you driving then "some of that is the KP1 script for you there!"

The only way they directly say NO is if they catch you in a lie, otherwise its going to be approved or timed because you need more job and or residence time or conditioned and you will have to jump hoops if its conditioned approval so be ready!

there is no IM with the Fin. company its done with the QC terminal a program where you input data and they check what you send them "sorta like a fancy email program" the managers computers all have yahoo msg. on them to use to communicate with the other stores.

Turnover... well I'm sure you can guess this one.... at 20.00 - 65.00 per car sell yeah you get a base salary but compared to even what other buy here pay here gives there people carhop gives circus peanuts for sales commission and that's if you jump all the hoops and pass the scripts and you have points to get that commission "you get points for selling a car and for calling people, adding applications in the system and so forth"

Trade in's are handled on a acv "actual cash value" and show value in the qc terminal, lets say your trading in this lovely 2001 Taurus.... it has to be put into the system before they make a call on if you can get a car or not and how much down payment you need... so the manager and district manager and buyer says oh that's car acv is 1500, lets give them 750.00 and show 1500.00 on paper... So now that line 5 car you wanted was 5000.00 and after the trade in when they send the desking sheet over for you its going to go like this Cash price of car 5895.00 trade credit of 1500.00 amount owed 4395.00 and then minus any down payment they are going to try to get you to add and they will because the more money you give the higher line of car you get... general thing is if you get approved for a line 5 and you want to get a higher line car its going to cost you at least 100.00 per each line you move up....

I would say about 99% if not 100% of all car places screw you on a trade so they are not really doing anything there that anyone else wouldn't either....

All of the cars sold by Carhop come with a 3 day 150 mile return feature that's never mentioned in hopes you wont use it... if you do return the car you can swap out with another if you wish to walk away they will let you and do a back off on the deal and if you complain and threaten a law suite or new channels and such you will get your down payment back, the company makes no bickers about they do whatever it takes to stay out of the general view of news or big law suites that draws attention to the lots in the towns they are in.... If you have had the car say a year I doubt they will give you any money back unless say the cars been flood or some type of damage and you can prove it but they will probable let you trade the car if the balance is low enought think its like 3000 or 2000 that you can owe max on the car otherwise they will let you out of the loan if you take the car to them and. if you think the cars been damaged badly or something like that run a carfax and a auto check because 99.9% of the cars they sell come from a auction to the lot are cleaned and put out for sale, they do run an auto check on them but sometime auto check misses something car fax has and it does take time for stuff to report to both carfax and auto check...

Once again just like the title to my response states "It is what it is, face value" Its a car lot that sells over priced cars to folks who cant buy else where, well they could if they looked around a bit more, but after all it is in fact a car lot and car lots do tend to mess folks over in some form or another....

Advice---- if you have bad or no credit wait don't buy an auto on terms buy a cheap car from some place save your money and with 2000.00 down you can and will get approved at most new and larger car lots of course the finance company will be notorious if your late or miss a payment and the interest will be high "same with car hop everyone 20.99 even with a 850 credit score"

oh and one other thing no DL needed to buy from Carhop as long as you have a state ID and someone with a drivers license to test drive the car and drive it off the lot, and I still need to check this one as I was told its illegal but they DO NOT under any circumstance sell cars for cash not even to GOD as they say....

Need more info let me know.....

To all Car-Hop Rebuttals

AUTHOR: Andrew - (U.S.A.)

I bought a car through your Mendota Heights Branch...a slick guy comes out with a toothpick in his mouth (no kidding) how cleche can you get! and wouldn't give me a I know you say you base it off of your income so all people can afford it but what your really doing is IM'ing UAC to see how much you can squeeze out of them (I have a friend who works there) :) As you know all the Real Dealerships are laughing at all of you beacuse who has ever heard of making car payments every two weeks...are you kidding me? Joke...typical company who couldn't make it in the real world selling crappy cars. So anyway, I bought this car and nine days later it broke down, I took it in to get looked at and the guy actually said "who sold this piece of **** to you? you should sue them" he said $4,670 for all the repairs...I brought it back and Car Hop stated well, the coverage you have is not for any of those parts, I'm sorry. Now, all of this seriously happend. what possible explination do you have for this? I think what we should do is take part in a little investagation to see what really goes on...Please answer the following questions, if your as real as you say you are, you shouldn't have a problem right?

-Why 2 pymnts a month?
-Do you IM your finance company?
-How is your employee Turnover?
-How many people threten to sue you on a daily basis?
-where is the best/worst place you have gotten a car?
-Who are you and what do you do?
-Would you mind a one on one interivew with an exec from UAC and one from car hop? if so, (which I doubt) I would like to set up a time.

now, your turn.

#6 Consumer Suggestion

A class action suit for what?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Because the refused to loan you money to repair your car???

That's nuts. No lender is obligated to loan a debtor money to repair an auto. Further, if you check your loan paperwork, you'll very likely see that in addition to having to maintain insurance (liability and collision,) you are required to maintain the vehicle.

If you don't pay, the'll repo it, sell it at auction, charge you the difference in the outstanding balance, including repo fees, repair costs (if any), auction fees, etc. If you still don't pay, you run the risk of being sued for the money-you don't want that; levies against bank accounts, levies against property, wage garnishments, levies against federal and state tax refunds, etc.

If you had a standard auto loan with a bank, do you think the bank is REQUIRED to grant you a "get your car fixed" loan? They may, but they're not required to do so.

Shut up next time!!!

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

He WAS doing you a favor. By your own admission he offered to help with the repair costs if not pay them all. All you had to do was send them an estimate. Next time, shut your hole and listen.

Call us so we can see if there is a resolution that meets your needs.

AUTHOR: Ms. A. Bush - (U.S.A.)

while it is unfortunate when any of our customers has a repair issue, unforeseen problems can occur with used vehicles. If you call us at 888-826-4227 we can refer you to an authorized repair shop. In addition, I apologise if you've had a negative customer service experience. It's our goal that the highest of customer service standards are met durring the course of each and every customer interaction.
