I've read all the reports on Casey's. Most of them I can see as made up. Some truth to some though. I am an ex-employee that got fed up with some of the stuff that happens at the store and quit after being offered a better job.
First, the stores are not all racist. My old manager would have hired a person no matter what the color. But she did tell me that her Area Supervisor did refuse to hire a black male because of his color. She told me that she was told that even though his credentials were good that she was not to hire him because "those people usually don't work out."
Second, stores can be nasty but not that nasty. I managed a store, while getting paid assistant manager wages, because the previous manager was fired. I found mold in the ice machine, enough that it took 3 hours to clean. Mold in the cooler. And a layer of urine in the bathroom that I had to use an SOS pad to clean up. The store that I got transferred to after getting demoted was a great store at one point in time. They did get an occasional mouse, but was taken care of. The new manager was informed of a mouse and roach problem. She got the mouse traps, but said that the roach traps were too expensive.
Third, the area here discriminates against age. When I managed I was told not to hire anyone under the age of 21. Most managers are told that, unless I trained them. In this state a person can be 16 and work in pizza, 18 for cashier. It even says this in the handbook.
Forth, many males that were going to move into management was mistreated by the previous area supervisor and demoted or fired. There is no male store manager in this area. I have many that would back me on this.
Fifth, you don't get weeks of training like I read in one report. You get 3 days.
Sixth, you don't get breaks. You take them when you can in between customers. There were some days that I didn't get one. Lunch breaks are non existent. Going anywhere between 6 and 14 hours without a break is a downfall.
Seventh, I started training for assistant manager. I was doing all the work by myself in 3 days. I didn't get get a raise, which they skipped 2nd assistant and went to 1st assistant, until I was needed to run a store 4 months later. Once they found a suitable woman to replace me I was demoted down to cashier, lost the raise, and was transferred to another store where the manager knew I knew how to run a store and had me do management work even though I was a cashier.
I turned all this in and more to corporate and received a letter from them saying that none of it was proven in investigation. That I wouldn't know about why other males got demoted or fired because that is confidential employee information and in that case I was mistaken cause I wasn't supposed to know. They said that since I mentioned ex-employees that they could not thoroughly investigate. Casey's may not be a good place to work, but they are smart.

I can answer some of your issues. The reason you avoid hiring. Under 21 in a gas station is because of alcohol laws. An 18 year old is permitted to sell alcohol as long as someone over 21 is on premisis. This puts a constraint on having those employees work alone which you often do at a gas station.
On breaks, there is no state law requiring an employer to offer breaks in missouri. Casey's does not need to provide them.
