Choice Overhead Garage Door Company Bait and Switch Minneapolis Nationwide

My son-in-law needed either a new garage door or the one they had fixed because my daughter and he just moved into their first home. 

I called Choice Overhead Garage Door Company and talked to the sales person on the phone.  He promised either a new garage door for a double car garage for $595 (out the door cost) or could fix the one he had for less.  My son-in-law called back the sales rep I talked to in order to confirm these prices.  After confirming this was correct he scheduled an appointment for Saturday, August 2, 2015.

When the service tech arrived he said we were quoted a wrong price by the sales rep (he said this was the price only for a one car garage) and it would be at least $795 for a double car door (cheapest door available) and then all the cost for the hardware and labor.  He also said that to fix our door would cost at least $1500, but because of the mix up the best he could do would be to charge $950 out the door price. 

After calling the company, we asked for them to review the two phone calls with the rep and see what was promised by the rep.  We were told that because of technical problem, they did not have either of the two phone recordings so it was the reps word against ours now that the service tech was ready to work.  How convenient! 

We were between a rock and a hard place because we needed the door replaced or fixed.  Because the door we had was a good door we decided to bite the bullet and just fix the door.  The tech said that to fix it, the door would cost $950 to do all that needed to be done and that would be an out the door price.  He spent a good 2.5 hours working on the door and got it fixed.  However, when he was done he told us that he had to use some parts that were not normal and that he would have to charge us an additional $200 for the parts on the door to make the door close properly.  This repair now was going to cost $1150.   He told us this AFTER he put the hardware on the door and after he was done.  He said he could remove it and put the old pieces on, but then the door would not close the way it was suppose to.  He did not tell us this before he did this extra work.  He could have talked to us while he was working on the door because we were just on the other side of the yard working.  What type of company promises to do one thing ($950 out the door price) and then without asking permission charges you more?

This is Bait and Switch at its worst.  You over promise and you then stick it to the customer and because they are in a vulnerable place because they cannot do anything about it in that moment. 

I am going to help my son-in-law out and pay for part of the door because this was not his fault. He trusted a sales rep, he trusted the installer and he trusted Choice Overhead Garage Door Company to do the right thing and they all failed.  All he got out of it was a lesson in Bait and Switch. 

I would never recommend this company to anyone!
