Once again I was ripped by circuit city on rebates. This time it was a double rebate. On 8/17/06 I purchased a video card with a double rebate. I placed the 2 rebate slips and the bar code from the box in a envelope and mailed it to them. I was to receive a rebate through them from nivida for 30$ and one from circuit city for 30$.
After waiting the full 8 weeks I got one rebate for 30$. When I called their rebate center I was told that you cannot mail 2 rebates in one envelope that is why I only got 1. Funny thing is last year same thing happened to me only last year they said there was no bar code and they cannot give a rebate without the bar code. At that time I still had the box and looked and the bar code was cut out as I knew I had sent it. So that was 1 rippoff by them.
So I want to know how do you place 1 bar code in 2 envelopes as they will not take a copy of it. Think about it no bar code no rebate. Two envelopes and only 1 bar code means 1 rebate. One envelope 2 rebates 1 bar code 1 rebate, either way it comes out 30$ not 60$ like they had on their shelf ad.
I am not going to lay down and roll over this time for them I will try one more time to get the rebate they said I would get then I am writting the atourney general in New York State and exposing them as the scammers they are.
Please excuse and typos when I am angry I make a lot of mistakes typing.

Ok UPDATE: Was told by their rebate center the last week of Nov. that the second rebate check had been mailed out. Here it is Jan. 2, 2007 I know for sure this was a total ripp-off by them.

this is a prime example of how these companies make money

When you get two rebates for a product they are done through two different companies 99% of the time. You most likely got a $30 rebate from CC and a $30 rebate from Nivida, however if you send them to the same place CC won't pay the Nivida rebate and Nivida won't pay the CC rebate. You must read the instructions before sending in any rebates, this is a prime example of how these companies make money.

Gotta agree with William - Consumer did not do something right

Robert said it himself - $30 CC and $30 Nvidia. Sounds like they were going to 2 totally different rebate centers.
I personally buy lots of stuff like that with rebates and if there are multiple rebates on one item, usually the manufacturer rebate requires the original UPC, and the store rebate requires a copy.
Hate to say it, but that is why companies still offer rebates. They make money by people not following instructions, or bothering to send them in.
Keep copies of everything. That way you know who to contact if something goes wrong and you still have some proof of purchase.
Unfortunately, if you don't follow all of the instructions, then they are not obligated to pay you.
#2 Consumer Suggestion
They are actually correct
AUTHOR: William - (U.S.A.)

They are actually correct. You should never put multiple rebates in the same envelope, especially in your case since the odds are that they were going to entirely different rebate houses and addresses. With Circuit City rebates, unless there is a typo both rebates should NEVER require the original, one should take a copy, and if they do require originals you should call to find out what to do -- do not make assumptions. The only time when you COULD mail them together is when the form specifically says that it is allowed, and I have never seen this with Circuit City, because typically one goes to CC and the other to the manufacturer.
Also, if you had made copies of your rebate submission (which I am going to assume you did not), then you could contact the processor of the second rebate and see if you can fax or mail them a copy of the missing rebate. Hopefully it will not be the one that actually needed the original UPC, which you no longer have. If you tell them that it was lost in the mail (which is fairly correct) you will probably have better luck than if you tell them to never sent it to them in the first place.
I suggest that you more carefully read your rebate forms in the future and do not make assumptions that you know how to handle situations like this because you now have proof in two cases that you do not. I am a fairly successful rebater and I would never have ended up in your situation. I do NOT work for Circuit City and it is not my intention to make you think I am standing up for them. It is simply my observation that you likely DID make an error.

Don't shop Circuit City

I have to agree with you, Robert. Circuit City is a horrible place to shop and has absolutely no customer service all the way up to the Executive Office! I am no longer a Circuit City shopper and am convincing everyone I know not to be one either!
