I shopped at the Newington, CT store on Friday November 23rd 2007, for the day after Thanksgiving sale. I was there to purchase the Compaq Presario laptop for $299.99; the sales paper said limited quantities.
I arrived at 5am & waited outside in the cold for 1hr, then I waited in line inside for another 45 minutes to purchase the laptop, come to find out vouchers were given to the 1st 15-20 customers. I asked several of the employees if there were any left & they couldn't tell me yes or no. I was then told I could wait until 8am to make sure all the people who received vouchers redeemed them; I then waited over an hour, to find out at 8:15am that there were no laptops left.

The sales ad didn't state the 1st 15-20 customers would get a voucher for the laptop. As far as I'm concerned the store wasted my time & I will never shop at Circuit City again!!!

I've told everyone I worked how they lied, mislead me & other customers. I will tell everyone I come in contact with about my experience in Circuit city. I've written a letter to Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.

Where is the rip off?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Okay first you say that the ad did say "Limited Quantities". Did you think you were the only one who wanted that laptop. In most cities they opened at 5am. So if you arrived at 5am and still had to wait outside for an hour to even get in, this should have been your first tip off that they probably won't have any laptops left. You decided to take the gamble that not everyone who got a voucher would actually purchase one. Unfortunatly your gamble did not work out.

So the next time you see a great deal, be prepared to do what everyone else does who wants these deals. Grab a sleeping bag and prepare to camp out, yea it's not easy but that is the price(in time) you need to pay to save the cost(in dollars).

Welcome to Black Friday!

AUTHOR: Wle - (U.S.A.)

You sound like you never went to a day after thanksgiving sale (known as Black Friday). Almost all electronic retailers use vouchers for their hot ticket items. You are complaining that the ad didn't advertise that there would be vouchers but I ask you what is the difference. Vouchers ensure that the people first in line get the items they want. I know that in our town we had people camped out at 6PM when our store opened at 5am. They were in LINE to get the laptop 10 hours before you!!

And yes at our store we had people that did not use their voucher so those laptops were opened up to everyone else. So the people waiting for the vouchers to expire it was not a waste of their time.

The Attorney General will not do anything for you because there was nothing done that was illegal!

LIMITED QUANTITIES

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 24, 2007

I don't understand how you can claim to be ripped off. As you have already acknowledged, the ad stated "limited quantities." When you went to purchase the item, it was already sold out. Hence the disclaimer, "limited quantities." What part of that do you not understand?

Furthermore, how could you not have noticed the store handing out vouchers to people as you were camping out in line, hours before store opening? Or at the very least heard other campers talking about the voucher system? "Limited quantities" indicate first-come first-serve ... it does not guarantee that YOU will PERSONALLY receive the item.
