Call me forgiving, but it took two seperate negative incidents at CC to convince me to take my future buisness elsewhere:

Having done our research, my wife and I knew what features we wanted as we began our search for a laptop computer. CC had a decent deal running, so we went there. Right off the bat the older guy running the department was obviously woefully lacking in knowledge, in that it took him some time to locate the CD-ROM drive on the notebook PC. He then went on to say that he owned that exact model (yeah, sure he did), and it treated him well. As we went to make the purchase, he [obligatorily] tried to sell us the extend service program. I kid you not these were his words; "For a three year warranty it'll run you $280, that comes out to about $50 dollars a year."

Our second fun experience happened a few months later when I tried puchasing a camera tripod. I had found one on clearence because it was damaged, yet I could easily fix at home. The employee that helped me was having trouble getting the right UPC, and disappeared. After a lengthy wait, I was approached by another employee, asking if I needed any help. I began to explain my situation, but he WALKED AWAY as I was talking, asking another customer if they needed any help. After that insult, there was a debate between two employees over my tripod. The antagonist INSISTED that the sign was not for the one I selected (impossible, considering the tripod I selected was the only one they offered made by Ambico, and every other tripod they had was made by Kodak).

I never shopped circuit City expecting top notch assistance, but still. If I wasn't such a cheapskate, I would have simply left the store on those occasions.

Dont Expect Much From Circuit City

AUTHOR: Cant Say - :) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 09, 2004

I have worked for circuit city for about 7 months now. I have worked for a few other retailers and I also did tech support professionally for one of the larger computer manufactures. Id like to think that I have good insight on how computer etc work - I can answer generally any question put out there. But it is no lie. Circuit City does force the employees to see the city advantage plans. Its a joke. Basically they tell you okay you have to con so many people per number of specific products you sell into buying this "great plan" but its really not. Quite honestly for the money Id go to Best Buy you get more bang for the buck. Im all about being loyal to the company, but they want you to be dishonest as far as I am concerned and tell people they need this or they need that. Make sure you sift through all the bullshit before you let yourself get dragged into buying one of these plans, because mostly its rip off you will never use. In fact before you buy consult the manufactures website and see what they offer..... ***** HINT***** Toshiba specifically thier plans are usually half the price and cover more product for the money... But thats just my two cents. Dont let anybody fool you, circuit city is ran by a bunch of clowns who dont know how to run a business they are very top heavy and dont spend any money on the company to make money. to them all that matters are you numbers... Thats my two cents.. sorry circuit city, but your stores suck, and you sure as hell barely pay my bills.. so I hope they dont expect me to go out of my way to trick somebody into somthing they DONT need.

I am sorry that you do not believe this, but all Circuit City employees are now required to sell a certain number of "service plans" per month. Circuit City is in dire finances and thinks the only way to get back on top is to force all associates to sell the CityAdvantage Plan(the new name for give us your money and we still shaft you.) CC now only hires parttime associates making $6 an hour. Were you lied to you about your warranty-probably. Were your questions
answered-of course not. Did you buy the "warranty"?. If you said yes I feel for you. Circuit City will do everything in its power to not help you. With most warranties, you must call an outside company for help. Bought a computer? call GE with any problem. Problem with a VCR call ecc.west. Bought a cell phone- call a phone number. CC will do nothing to help you with your defective merchandise. Buyer Beware!

That's completely untrue!

My husband has worked at Circuit City for two years now - he worked there before the switch from commission to per-hour salaries. He knows more about electronics than anyone I know, and everyone in his department works there full time. At 24 years old, he's the youngest in the department - not a college or high school student among them.

Yes, it is a requirement of his job to try to sell extended warranties, but they don't ask him to force them on people, and he doesn't. I've seen his sales approach when I stop by the store to take him to lunch - it's low pressure, he takes no for an answer and he knows the answer to almost anything that anyone asks him.

Even before he worked there, I never felt pressure to buy anything I didn't want.
You would think that folks would be happy about salespeople not being paid on commission - it doesn't matter if someone buys a $100 radio or a $1500 stereo system.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

read Consumer Reports and make your purchases accordingly.

I have posted before but I am more than happy to do so again. After 30+ years(20?) Circuit City has fired all commissioned employees. The company is in dire finances and decided that customers do not need help in purchasing items. This company now only employs part-time high school and college students who are only trained to push the extended warranties. You will get no help with purchasing your items- read Consumer Reports and make your purchases accordingly. If you do choose to purchase at CC, get the warranty in writing before you buy. Employees keep their jobs by selling warranties. They will lie to your face in order to keep their job. Ask questions first!!
