Decided to sign up for comcast cable and internet service. Other than dialup it is the only internet service in the area. Within a month after install the internet service kept droping and would not connect. They advertise always on, that is crap. My step son which is paying the bill, stated we would have to live with it.
Well after the 6 month period of up and down service we filed complaints and service requests. Comcast came out and did thier audit and screwed up our service preventing access to the internet for a full 3 weeks. During this time 3 service requests were filed and each time comcast failed to show up or canceled the request. The 4th time we had to complain to the television stations to get any response from them. They did come out and made our cable better and was able to connect to the internet.
My step son has since canceled the entire service and now they want the full contract paid out without any guarantee that service would be available. Thier "always on" internet service has no guaranteed up time. If they can guarantee service I would not have any problem paying them for it. Well now we are going back to dialup and will eventually move out of the area. They probably think we are trailer trash and do not care one bit about this area. Well they will care once I file with ripoffreport.com, bbb, all the news stations, bad mouth them on the newsgroups and blogs, put signs and info in the neighborhood to support my cause.

That to me is completely unacceptable, at least to me it sounds like you have gotten someone who doesn't know what they are doing very well and needs to be reported to thier suppervisor.

Obviously you did a very smart thing by taking the modem to the drop line outside to see if it would work, and by it not working at the Input obviously lets you know what part of the problem is, sounds like you have been able to trouble shoot it better than the person that was sent to your home by what you have said on this post, I do admire that because most people wouldn't even know that they could do that to trouble shoot the inside wireing themselfs.

Also seems like you have the old 59 type wire that needs to be changed to RG6 cable, if it is accessable to get to, the old 59 line will lose more signal than RG6 line will, but I would bet that more than 90% of the problem you where haveing was due to a bad drop cable from the main line to your home. I'm just guessing here but I would believe that , that wire was never changed or checked for trouble.

back ground - cable tv and internet installed 6 months ago (cable modem purchaced from store, installation by comcast using existing lines (cable lines from 1999-2000 by no means rg6 or what ever the term is)), comcast did thier audit of the area pretty much at the 6 month mark, at that time my cable tv reception got worse and could not connect to the internet for 3 weeks, during those 3 weeks 4 service requests were put in (1st no call no show, 2nd no call no show, 3rd called but did not get the call and no show, 4th showed up at 2:02pm (2 minutes past) and did not even have a service ticket for the internet just cable reception).

That morning, before comcast came out, interent came up and was able to download over 700 email messages. while the tech was there internet was up. that evening back down. that same day my stepson, which the account is in, had called to cancel the entire cable setup, which is fine with us since at least with dialup we can connect at any time of the day without issue.

when I say internet is down the cable modem does not have the online light on therefore the signal to the house was not good. i even took an extention cord and connected the modem to the outside cable before all of the inside wiring. we are not getting a good enough signal to the house from comcast and they do not care and do not even have a guarenteed up time.

during the first 6 months there would be days at a time of no connection, some times it would come up for an hour or two.

the tech that did come out on the 4th time kept compaining about his job and how there are some areas where he feels he could get shot in just for disconnecting someones cable that is stealing it.

and I'm having some trouble understanding parts of your report, you say the service kept going off and on but didn't say if we came out to your home to install the internet service or if you installed it yourself ? The reason I ask is because Comcast has what is called a Self Install Kit for the internet service that you can get at some retail stores if you are buying a cable modem, or you can pick them up at the local Comcast office if you wished to rent the cable modem. Because if you installed it yourself it is possable that your modem wasn't getting enough signal and that would cause it to go in and out all of the time. But anyway then you said that when they came out the first time you said they messed up your connection for 3-weeks, well did anyone ever say why it was messed up was there a problem with your computer or was it something else?

The 3rd thing I wanted to ask about was where you stated that "(3 service requests were filed and each time comcast failed to show up or canceled the request.)" Was there ever a tag on your door at any point of the 3 scheduled dates, in the system I work in we have to wait a certain amount of time and have our dispatchers try to contact the customer over the phone before we can leave a note on the door leting them know to call back in.

I wander if you ever spoke with anyone in internet support you should get the option when calling the customer service line 1-800-COMCAST then options 1,1,2. This will connect you with a person who can usually fix the problem over the phone or decide that it is a more major problem and schedule a service tech to come out and fix the problem. Last of all did they ever give a reason why the appointment was canceled? Did the Tech that had the order call you and cancel it or did it get canceled without you knowing it?
