I was on my way to Costco to go shopping when my tire alert went on. I had a screw in my tire. I went to the tire center to see if they would plug the tire. It was a Sunday, I was 20 miles from home, and it was minus 5 degrees outside. They refused to fix it becasue I did not buy them there. My car was two months old and the tires came with it, so of course I did not get those tires from them. I had to put more air in the tire and hope I made it home becasue I did not know of any place nearby that was open that could fix it. I e-mailed customer service and they said that was their policy, so I e-mailed the president and his administrative assistant. neither responded.

Mistake made on previous response

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 02, 2008

I have made a serious mistake, Costco Tires will always take care of their member's needs in tire situations; IE repairs. The previous statement I made is UNTRUE!! If a member needs tires or any repairs on a non Costco O.E tire the company will ALWAYS I mean Always do what they can to help the member in need. If a member of Costco has an emergency and needs our help we are here to help them. I am very sorry for the confusion on the previous statement.

too bad

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 17, 2008

Costco does not care about tires bought some where else and or O.E tire on a new car. The Rubber Manufactures association has only approved how Costco's repairs their own tires BFG/Michelin. so if the repair fails hows fault is it? A Car dealership was charging to do rotations/repairs/rebalancing and was taking it over to Costco to have it done for free, corporate heard of this and went nuts, stopped ALL work to be done on non costco tires. Plus the tire center makes zero profit off their tires( hard to believe) but the tire sales go inside the wharehouse in major sales, and the only profit the Tire center makes is the $10 mount and balance fee, they are only there to service costco purchased tires only, maybe if the tire center employees made commission on the work they do, they probably wouldn't find a way to shine you..they get paid the same if they have 50 cars to do or just one flat repair.

Two Month old car should have road side assistance

AUTHOR: Patrick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2008

If your car was only 2 months old it should have some kind of road side assistance on it. I do road side assistance for most of the major motor clubs (AAA etc.) and we would gladly come to any place to repair a tire or change it to the spare. Costco has no responsibility here. You weren't ripped off here.

I've Said It Before

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2008

I pay 5 bucks every 6 months for "roadside" coverage through my insurance company. It covers running out of gas, locking my keys inside my vehicle, getting a flat tire, they'll come change a tire, AND towing. Have three vehicles so I pay $15 every six months and have used the service two or three times per year, every year.

One year I got a tow, a locksmith to get my keys out and a tow driver to change tires on two different vehicles for $30 buck. The tow would have been $60+, the locksmith would have been $40 and the two tire changes would have been $90. So I saved myself $160. It's a sad state of affairs but they've probably been sued by someone who's tire they repaired, that didn't buy them from them and they don't want or have the liability. You can thank whoever sued them for your situation. Had a guy come into my shop with a ring that HE said he'd paid $4,500 for but was insured for $10,000. Wanted me to size it for him. There was no way the ring was valued at that amount. I passed on the size job cause it wasn't worth the $45 I would have charged him to size it. Not with him putting a $10,000 value on it. Not worth the hazzle. Not worth taking the risk. Kind of like plugging your tire.

They have no obligation to you

AUTHOR: Baby Girl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2008

I don't think that Cosco was intentionally being rude to you by not repairing your tire.

Like you said, you did not purchase the tire there. If they plugged it and heaven forbid something bad happened, you could go back to Cosco and they would be on the hook for something they did not sell you.

If it was a major emergancy, that's what AAA is for, or, some car places provide you with at least a year of road side assistance.
