This complaint isn't with the Petsmart store itself but about a female named Debbie who adopts cats and dogs to people from that store, and is just to warn people of the kind of racist and evil practices that woman can do. Sometime last year I had been searching for a companion for my kitten.

I went to the petsmart and was looking through the cages. First of all this Debbie woman never greeted me or was nice to me at all (the way she was with other people around). Finally when I approached her about adopting a kitten she kept beating around the bush and asking me questions about my own kitten and what kind of shots she has had.

I told her she's had all her shots but the woman was just acting very strange and suspicious with me. I was a young 24 year old east asian female and couldn't understand why she was acting so odd.

Finally she said had one male kitten left, the one I had been looking at. I had been looking at him for over an hour and told her that I wanted to adopt him. She said someone was going to pick up the other kittens in there the next day and that I could pick him up the next day as well. She doesn't charge adoption fees up front and promised me the kitten was reserved for me.

I was really excited because I had been looking for a kitten for my other kitten for so long. The next day, she called me and asked me if I had found out if my cat had a particular feline leukemia shot.

I told her she did, and we agreed that I could pick up the cat sometime at night. I still had a strange feeling about the woman being racist but didn't give it much thought.

When I got to the store to pick up the kitten, I noticed that it was gone. That's when my heart just sank. I knew something was wrong and this woman lied to me or sabotaged my chance to adopt the kitten. When the woman got there she looked in the cage and very non-chalantly just said whoops, the cat's gone.

She wasn't surprised or confused at all. Then she mumbled something saying "it looks like the cleaning lady adopted the cat out, that never happens." Then I saw her look at a nurse nearby very suspiciously as if the nurse knew something about it too.

That's when I knew this woman had lied to me and purposely brought my hopes up and the whole time didn't intend to adopt the cat to me. She also tried to lie and make exucuses right there saying 'well you never paid an adoption fee' when she very well knew that I didn't have to and that the cat was promised to me.

The whole time she was just suspicious and attempting to prevent me from being able to adopt the cat. Instead of just saying no, she lied to me, lead me on and got my hopes up. I was so angry and furious and knew that her intentions were ill, and that she had discriminated against me for being a young asian ethnic female.

Debbie, the horrible evil woman, never even apologized to me about it. She also showed me two other 'black' kittens that she had saying "well I brought these ones for you to adopt." Which proved that she knew all along she was going to take that other kitten (who was mostly white) away and prevent me from adopting it (for reasons I have no clue of except pure evil and discrimination).

She acted so non-chalant and didn't care a single bit about her evil unjust sick actions. I was so furious I just said to the woman "f*** you" and left (which is something I NEVER say to anyone since I'm just a nice decent person). Later, I wrote a very long letter to the petsmart company and the manager was nice enough to give me a gift certificate.

This is not a complaint at all about the store but about this sick woman Debbie who has ill intentions and deceives people when it comes to adopting pets. It's just a warning for minorities out there or even young people, to beware of discriminating lying rats like this woman Debbie.

This is in response to the rebuttal to the Debbie in PETsMART complaint. The thing you must understand is that PETsMART merely donates the space in their stores and the supplies needed to allow independent rescue/adoption organizations to function in the store and have better exposure for more adoptions and less euthanasia.

It's very unfortunate that a woman kind enough to help save live is such a bold faced racist! The best and ONLY thing that you can do is talk to the manager and request that they ask that woman to refrain from discriminating and treat everyone fairly, or ask her to not be the adoption coordinator.

I work at a PETsMART in Columbus, OH, and we had a problem with a certain volunteer that was upsetting customers and she is now banned from our store. It can be done! Insist on it!

Angela, I'm sorry to hear about the ignorance of the employee in question.

I noted the fact that she was connected with them in your report, and my advice to you would be to still follow up with the PetSmart management in this case. If they gave you a gift certificate, they must of clearly knew they were in the wrong, and they could be using the gift certificate as a way to try to slither out of a potentially big mess.

You sound like your not mad at PetSmart at all,and that is a good attitude to have, but if she is still employed with them,you might want to encourage them to take appropriate action as her conduct toward you is deserving of termination, or a disciplinary suspension at the very least. Good luck!
