I had over 300,000 skymiles in my account, that came from when Delta bought Pan Am and told us all that our Pan Am miles would never expire. Never came, without notice to me. When I checked my balance, planning to take a trip my wife and I had been dreaming of for years, I was surprised to see my balance was zero! Checking with Delta, I learned they had changed the expiration rules on those miles and had expired over 300,000 of my miles. Further, they told me they had notified me on thier web site. The also asked if I had moved, clearly getting ready to say I had not updated my address. Sorry, I have lived at the same address for 30 years. Delta then offered to sell the miles back to me for $3,000.

As Manager of Global Infrastructure for a multi-billion dollar company, I assured them neither my team nor I would fly one mile on Delta Airlines.

I hope a class action suit is being considered. THis is pure and simple theft.

Skymile scam

AUTHOR: D.bryan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 02, 2009

I too lost my mileage on my Skymiles account and was told I had to show some type of activity on my account in the past two years. I was unable to speak to a person regarding any questions I had with the Skymiles account. I was directed to their website. I was told that the upper mgmt decided that everything regarding skymiles could be handled by the internet. Not one person would give me the name of an individual I could speak to on the phone. NOT ONE. I was told I would HAVE to submit my complaint by email and someone would get back to me. My miles had been removed only 13 days prior to my attempt at making a reservation. All I got on my email response was " So sorry. Nothing we can do". Also, I was told they had sent an email to me regarding the expiration date. I don't understand why I didn't receive a letter in the mail. They don't mind sending you request for credit cards in the mail!!! I had not had the email address they said they sent it to in over a year. I WILL NEVER FLY DELTA AGAIN. I HAD BEEN A GOOD CUSTOMER FOR OVER 5 YEARS. I START FLYING AGAIN IN JANUARY AND I WILL DEFINITELY BE USING ANOTHER AIRLINE.

How Long Since You Flew Delta?

As I recall PANAM was liquidated around 1991 or so. Delta and most other airlines require that you fly their airline within 3 years or so or points expire. Nowadays when airlines have curtailed most consumer benefits and charge fees for things that used to be free frequent flyer programs are targets as well. Some airlines have increased the number of points for a flight as well. It appears that you just assumed that a deal made in the early '90's is still effective today. If you are going to participate in FF programs you need to follow the programs all the time because rules change.
