I made an offer on a boat at DSW.  We had to drive to Texas from Utah to get the boat.  Since they wouldn't hold the boat for us I asked if they would call me if someone else was interested in the boat and that I would wire transfer the money to them.  I told them that we were making vacation plans to go on a cruise out of Galveston after purchasing the boat.  I made it very clear that I wanted to purchase the boat and that I was securing the sale.  They sold it right out from under me that very same day!  They claimed they tried to call me but there is no record of calls on either my phone or my husbands phone and no messages left.  I booked the cruise thinking I had secured the purchase of the boat only to find out 4 days later that they sold it!  They took the full price offer over my offer and screwed me over and then didn't even have the courtesy to call and let me know before I made my non-refundable cruise plans.  No integrity at this place.  Don't believe what they say, its business, business, business.  This is why I prefer to buy things from people not businesses!  Don't trust this place!

I would like to clear up some facts here:

First of all, I did not ask this company to hold the boat for me while I went on a cruise.  I told the employee of DSW boats that I wanted to purchase the boat, I told him I live in Utah and if I could secure the boat then we would make the drive to pick it up. I told him I would wire transfer the money or send a check for the boat if necessary but that I would prefer to come see the boat first.  We talked about the options.  He told me they could not hold the boat for me which I understood, so I said, well, could you call me if someone else wants to buy it and let me wire transfer the money at that point.  He said, sure, but being that it was January he didn't think it would be a problem.  It was only after I thought I had secured the purchase of the boat that I made a reservation for a cruise out of Galveston to have a breat before driving home.   I even discussed this with the employee at DSW and he said it would be possible to keep the boat there AFTER we PURCHASED it while going on the cruise and then pick it up on the way home.

Here is where I made my mistake.  I was on the Toyota Epic Marine website and came across a blog post about what appeared to be the same boat that was for sale at DSW.  There was a email address provided, so I emailed the owner of the boat and low and behold it was the seller.  We chatted about the boat and I negotiated a price for the boat which was $1,000 less than what it was for sale for.  He accepted my offer.  I believe that when DSW had a full price buyer, they decided to just take it (and hold the boat for him while he applied for a loan), instead of calling me and giving me the opportunity to wire transfer the money.  I was not sure on what exact day it was that the boat was sold from under me, all I know is that I made the deal on Thursday and on Monday I called to tell them I was mailing a check for the boat and they informed me in a VERY RUDE manner that the boat was sold.  They said they tried to call me on Thursday, which was why I thought the boat was sold on Thursday, but that there was no answer.  They said they tried my husbands cell phone also.  There was NO RECORD of any phone calls on either of our phones at anytime between Thursday and Monday!  I believe I can prove that fact with our cell phone records if I had to.  Bottom line is that they sold the boat out from under me in order to get $1,000 more for it which would put another $100 bucks in their pocket.  Truth be told, I would have paid the extra $1,000 if I had to.  I guess DSW perceived me as being CHEAP, but I just think I was being a  savvy negotiater.  Whatever!

So, there I was, stuck with non-refundable cruise tickets out of Galveston with no reason to drive to Texas!!!  Yeah, I was pissed and the ***** I talked to on the phone was hardly even apologetic.  She was RUDE, RUDE, RUDE, much like the first ridiculous response I got to my complaint.  This woman first of all needs to learn how to treat customers, and second of all needs to learn how to spell.

Fortunately for us, I found another boat at Texas MasterCraft, same boat but in better condition.  It was more money but I was able to negotiate a great price for a great boat and still go on our cruise.  Yay, for us!  I believe it was good Karma!  We are very happy with our new boat and are actually happy that things turned out the way they did, but that doesn't excuse DSW for not holding up to their end of a bargain, even if it was verbal. Bad business!

Thank you for listening.  This will be my last post on this matter, I would like to move on with my life.  I just wanted to clear up the misconception that I was asking them to hold the boat for me while I went on a cruise, which was NOT the case!

DFWBOATS In Response to FUNNY

I was the one that personally handled this situtaiton and maam with all due respect you are not telling the truth at all.  You are just upset that we did not hold the boat for you.  DFWBoats is a pre-owned consignment dealer.  We sell boats for boat owners, our job is to sell the boats as quickly as possible.  For many reasons we do not hold boats nor do we take deposits.

We do however put travel holds for those traveling over 2 hours away, we will schedule our customers on the board for lake testing once payment method is confirmed.  That guarantees the boat to be here upon customers arrival for first opt at purchasing it.  We only can do a 3-4 day hold depending on circumstances.  You were not ok with any of this.  You got upset because you wanted to go on a cruise and wanted us to hold it for you.  We cannot do that.  You stated you would get back with us. Didn't hear from you for a couple of days, of which I personally spoke to you on the phone, so why you have no record is very questionable.

It was not sold the same day.  It was sold two days after. WHen I told you unfortunately we sold the boat, you became irrate.  Refusing to listen, and continued a rant.  I told you we were sorry, but as discussed with you on the front end, we did not hold boats nor do we take deposits.  No one from this company told you otherwise.  But there was no way we could hold a boat while you went on a cruise. Regardless that I told you we had sold the boat, the day we receive an overnight check for the full amount of the boat, of which we shredded.  We've never heard from you since.

Funny how you attempt to bring integrity into the situation. YOU were several states away and wanted THEM to do YOU a favor and hold the boat, then call YOU. But this is business and its NOT about integrity as YOU have defined it. THEY had a buyer that wished to pay the asking price, YOU wanted to haggle and be cheap about it. They sold the boat to the customer that was willing to pay the asking price and nothing more. YOU want to make MORE of an issue out of this then actually needs to be because YOU felt all butthurt that THEY didnt do as YOU wanted. THAT is NOT a lack of integrity, that is YOUR expectations not being met. YOU didnt put money down, you were "INTERESTED" in making the purchase but ONLY as long as they did it YOUR WAY. They did not do WHAT you wanted and THAT is why YOU have taken to the web to defame them. I find it amazing that YOU expect other people to do what YOU want the way YOU want it and when they dont do EXACTLY what you want you bash them online. Heres a few things to keep in mind.

1. YOU were not there with cash in hand ready to make the purchase.

2. YOU expected them to accomidate YOU.

3. YOU expected THEM to tell any other buyer to bugger off BECAUSE you wanted it.

4. No money down.

5. YOU were going on a cruise and EXPECTED them to hold it for YOU.

Sometimes you win at life and sometimes you lose at life. Had you even been in the same state as they are then YOU would have gotten a LOT farther. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO ACCOMIDATE YOU!!!!! YOU can stop playing the victim because YOU were NOT victimized, THEY have been by you and your viperous typing. YOU lost an opportunity and THAT IS ALL!!!! If this boat was so d**n important, why didnt you scrub your "cruise" and go get the boat???!!!??? Because it wasnt THAT important.
