I have a small business. I signed up with DIRECT TV about 4 years ago and registered my company name and address as the user of the service. Now, after 4 + years, I get a call out of the blue by an ignorant DIRECT TV employee who said that she found out that "I" was a business! Further, she said that my rates were going to go up (about double) because I was a business!
I told her that she was correct, the store was getting the DIRECT TV service, and that DIRECT TV was quite well aware that it is a business using the service, that the monthly bills came in the business name, to the business address, and were paid for by a business check! All done for over 4 years.
Further, I was not about to pay double the monthly rate (going from $33.50 to about $60 per month for the same service level). I said that I had an established relationship and that DIRECT TV was quite well aware that it was selling its service to a business and that I would switch to cable TV before I would pay any rate increase.
She got irate with me, and since she has the ability to cut off the service, I suppose she thinks she has all the power... her way or the high way. So I hung up and she cut off the service 5 minutes later. Never mind that I was PRE PAID until the next billing cycle. She simply cut off the service.
So I wrote a letter to the CEO Charlie Ergen and gave him a little math lesson. I have been paying about $400 a year for service and over the past 4 + years, I had paid DIRECT TV over $1600.
Prior to his ignorant employee calling me, I had no desire to change my TV provider. But now, DIRECT TV will be loosing my $400 a year, year after year. Bad business decision, Charlie!
"I" still will get TV service, and at most, I will be inconvienced for a couple of weeks until the cable is hooked up. So I shall watch TV the old fashiond way. No big deal.
Keep in mind that even though I own a business, it is a small business and the TV was not watched by customers. No bar, no restaurant, no one watching the TV except the store owners and the (1) employee, when we are not taking care of customers. So people, how about a round of applause for the ignorant $8.00 an hour employee who has now cost her employer over $400 a year!

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company
Direct TV sucks!!

Direct TV is alluring with their starter prices compared to cable's BUT they are a deceptive and scum bag run company.
First, if you ever have any problem you'll get some middle aged idiot from Mississippi who will never listen to what you say, they retort robotically out of a three ring binder regarding your problem, to which you will get no where.
If you ever have to replace a receiver, this will extend your contract, which they will tell you will not and usually they'll bring an HD receiver when you just need a regular one and insist that "it's standard, and won't change a thing". This is what they are supposed to tell customers so when you sign the service report receipt, you'll be agreeing to something you normally wouldn't.
Plus, with the HD being hooked up you will automatically get a double of all your channels you have already only in HD which hikes your bill about 50$ a month.
These are just a few of the pitfalls I have seen while dealing with this company and no one I have ever talked to are happy with these buttholes after the trial period where you bill is lower ends. RUDE employees with little knowledge of how to problem shoot the simplest of ordeals, shoddy service and seriously deceptive business practices. I would warn anyone even talking about going with this company, you will regret this decision, they make sure of it.
