Everyone,

Whatever you do don't sign up with Direct TV- this is just the tip of the iceberg...there was more, but too long to include.

The salesperson, Jasmine (2071320), said I was getting DIRECTV for $29.95 per month for 12 months and $39.95/mo after that for 150 channels which turned out to be a complete lie. There are all kinds of hidden fees and word games they play that they don't tell you about such as:

"Installation free" but they charge you a "handling fee" of 19.95 plus tax. The installation would have been $100!

Installation of "up to 4 additional TV's free" was a lie. Each TV has to have a box that rents for $4.99 plus tax/ month. (sales person never spoke about any rental fees)

"Free DVR upgrade" means you get an "instant rebate" of $100 for the equipment rental that never shows up on a bill anywhere, but the DVR "service" is $5.99/month. (sales person never spoke about a service fee for DVR)

When I got the bill it says: "You agreed to pay for 18 months consecutive months." (I never agreed to any such thing)

They sign you up for a DVR equipment rental which is a 24 month non refundable contract activated by giving my credit card # to Jasmine. (she never said a word about this)

The sales person (Jasmine 2071320) was supposed to disclose all of this to me before she took my credit card according to supervisor Jason (I47 of Pennsylvania). Jasmine told me the only reason she needed my credit card # was to activate the Auto Pay for the $50 gift certificate offer that the supervisor knew nothing about and had to go ask someone. He said it wasn't set up on my account so he gave me a $50 credit, but said there was nothing more he could do.

My monthly amount ended up being $69.95/ month plus tax for the 150 channels- which I don't want to afford. I down graded to 45 channels to get my bill down to the promised $29.95, but this still ended up $5.97/month more than Comcast ($39.95/mo for 180+ channels) due to the $9.98 additional outlets and the $5.99 DVR service and that's only for a year, who knows what will happen in the second year of the "contract" I never new about.

When I initially called, I wrote down really good notes and went back over all of it with the "Jasmine", the sales person, but she just lied. Then when you call about the discrepancies they play word games saying there is no "upgrade" for a free DVR offer (they don't use the word "upgrade" that is a DISH TV word) and what is my "plan name" (Jasmine never told me my "plan name", only gave me an "order ID"). I've been on this last phone call/hold for 1:42 hours after several calls - I'm so disgusted and I think they just want you to give up.

Tell everyone you know not to fall for the TV ads about Direct TV- they are blatant lies. This has been the worst case of "bait and switch" I've ever known. It's illegal!

You Need To Do This

AUTHOR: S.n. - (U.S.A.)

DirecTV has become famous for tacking on and charging for items they have told you they do not charge for.

In my case, they tried to charge me for not returning the DVR box my daughter purchased for me...they claimed I "rented" it from them which is was hilarious since I had the sales receipt and all of the printed information and not once was "rent" or "lease" mentioned.

Because I refused to return MY box to them, they tacked on an early cancellantion fee -- it wasn't, I had the paperwork for that as well and when I refused to pay it, the sent me to collections.

Go to the Better Business Bureau website and get the addresses for the corporate DirecTV offices. Write a letter to your attorney General's office and the Attorney General's office for the state(s) where the DirecTV offices are located, copy the letter to the DirecTV offices and the Better Business Bureau (they won't help you, but give them the extra paperwork to deal with anyway).

I did this and after my AG contacted them, the charge was gone from my credit report and I received a letter from DirecTV telling me the matter had been taken care of.

Good luck.

Read the agreement before you sign

I do not have Direct TV but, I am thinking about it. I read all the agreements and I know about the "lease charge" and the 18 month to two year (for HD) service. I would suggest in the future you READ all the agreements first and avoid the headaches of impulse buying.
