In January of 2009, after trying to cancel direct TV for loss of income, they charged to my debit card 700 plus dollars, of which $200 was equipment. This of course left my account overdrawn, which caused a whole different set of charges. I sent them back their equipment, they received it on 2/5/09, and I received a final bill dated 2/15/09.

I called when I received the final bill and they said the refund for the equipment would take 6 to 8 weeks, even putting it on the same card. I wait, the middle of March I receive another bill charging for movies over a year old that were on the dvr that was mailed back to them. We did try to rent some pay per views, but renting from the dvr itself never worked and later I found out it was because we didn't have a phone line hooked up to it. We have a very old house, there aren't many places to plug in a phone line and without having phone line through the entire house we couldn't hook this feature up, so it never worked.

I believe in this day and time they have a way of knowing if the movie was watched or not, but they claim they do not; however since I know I called on the issue and found out a phone line was needed I assume they at least know that much. Also there were times when I went on their website and paid for movies (which is how they got my debit card number).

I have called since receiving my March final bill and I was told that if they put the refund back on the debit card they took it off of it would be 3-8 business days. I called back a few days later to verify and was told I should have my refund by Friday, March 27, 2009. Today is March 31, 2009 and I called again having not received my refund and was told I don't have a final bill yet.

I think this is Direct TV's way of extending how long they have to pay you back the equipment refund. I am now being told there is no 3 - 8 business days and I don't have a final bill yet. If I still don't have a final bill they can extend the refund out each month.
