I signed on with AT&T because they advertised "NO CONTRACT" I already had Direct TV and other than weather outages, was not unhappy with them. I also decided to do the bundle because they had merged with AT&T and I already had the equipment set up in my home. I signed up over the phone from an ad online and never "signed" anything. I told them don't give me free stuff and then charge me more to remove it, I do not want your free HBO, Starz, and whatever else you're pushing, I just want this package and I do not want a change in my bill everytime you decide some freeby fell off! The phone Natzi agreed. The very first month, my bill changed and I called them and tried to cancel because I had 30 days to do so. Of course I was told I didn't cancel in time and I would have to keep my bundle, things didn't improve in the next months and I asked how much would it take to get me out of their deal.

They charged me a large amount and assured me I would be free of them. I kept being billed but was told after months of trying that I had a Credit on my account, so I kept getting bills from AT&T marked Payment is not required. So silly me, if payment is not required, I will not pay them. Then I get a bill for $l6?.00 that they say is past due and threatened to stop service. I was told that I had not been paying Direct Tv for 2 months. I told them I had bills from AT&T that said no payment required and they said that was for AT&T"s service but I still owed for their TV. I said ok, so who do I send it to? They said I should still send it to AT&T because they were one company, I said you can't be "ONE" company one day and "TWO" companies another so which is it? They then told me that my $ 47.00 a month deal was history since I dumped AT&T and my new amount would be $87.00 a month for my TV Select pkg.

I said AT&T told me that my charge with Direct TV wouldn't change when I paid them their blood money, and that I live on a fixed income and I couldn't afford $80.00 a month TV payments, they didn't even TRY to help me work something out. They just said well you are going to be charged that until your contract runs out in July 2018! I have more hours clocked into Direct TV, than I would have if I worked there, just trying to find someone who had the authority to do something, but of course they won' let you. If you should get lucky and contact someone who speaks English and seems to be sometype of manager, you will be cut off, and after giving the manditory identifing information 50 times do you think they might call you back, oh no, you can call the recording and start again and of course you can never get the one who sounded like he "might" be able to help you.

So far my $47.00 a month bundle has cost me over $600.00 and Direct TV cut my service off last week saying I was past due, my son was here and he called them and gave them the tracking number proving that not only had my check been send on time but they had received it. He asked them when I could expect to have my service turned back on and was told it would be when they found the mistake and it could take about 10 days. He said so my mother is just suposed to set here for 10 days without TV because you screwed up, and they didn't respond!  I never signed a contract with Direct TV and was told it was in the fine print, I tried to find the fine print and read it but I couldn't even with my magnifying glasses. I think this is an outrage,  I have all of my receipts but I didn't get them out to write this complaint so the exact amounts of money spent is approximated but the overall account is true and acurate, I am 77 years old, memory isn't as clear as it once was, but I know when I've been held up and by who! The only thing missing from this robbery is the gun!

Just to let you know, you do not need a physical contract to be signed by you anymore nowadays. If you say "yes" on the phone, it can be used as a contract. This is a loop hole that many companies and/or scammers use to get you to agree on whatever products they are selling over the phone line. I believe the laws allow this to happen just for the convenience of business. I'm sorry to hear about your story. I hope you will get it straighten out.
