Directtv Lied, and tried to scare me into paying money that I do not owe. Ripoff Baltimore Maryland
*Consumer Comment: If you activate the service, you agree to the terms
*Consumer Suggestion: Patricia, Contact The Attorney General's Office
Direct tv lied to me and told me that I signed a contract where as I agreeded to keep their dish for one year, I never signed anything like that.
Also called me on the phone and said it was a verbal contract, I had nothing explained to me about their service, now they want me to pay a bill for not keeping their service.
So now they are going to put it in a collection agency, Iam on S S and did not agree to anything about paying a sum if I had it disconnected before a year of service.
They should explain or give you a paper to read so you can understand what they are talking about, it is a total rip off.

Patricia,
Sorry you are having a hard time with DirecTV. I also subscribe to DirecTV and although i did not sign anything when I set up the service, the customer service rep made it clear that if you are using a standard receiver, the contract is one year. If you are using the HD or DVR receiver then the contract is for two years.
If you cancel the contract early, I think the penalty can be $300 (not positive on the amount).
I am assuming the contract length offsets the cost of the dish that they give you.
Good luck in your fight, but if you go to the website and look at the terms for your package it's probably there....in really small print

In Vermont and Maryland. Contacting DirecTV alone gets you nowhere. It is time these companies were held accountable for lying to the public and then attempting to force them to pay for something they were never aware of. Good luck.
