This is a complaint and disappointment with Direct TV Satilite. We are in our seventies and have done business with these folks for many years. We even moved our boxes from another town years ago.

We never had to worry about a contract before because we did not intend to make changes.  These people are saying that we have a contract with them.  My wife was here when the last man was here to check the box that did not work.  She is disabled in a wheel chair. She did not agree to a contract. The box was Free or so they told us that. It was called a Genie.  Now they are saying we have to pay for a new box back in 2012.

We sent both receivers back to Direct TV in the boxes that they sent for us to send these receivers in.  They said the charges would be dismissed when they got their boxes back.   Now they are saying that we have to pay this big amount because we changed our service without a notice.  What???

I have heard so many lies told and I really enjoyed Direct TV for a lot of years but I don't owe any money to them. Why do I have to pay for something that they said was Free and because it was some recorder or something and We never learned how to do anything except watch TV.

I think they are trying to get money from a 76 year old man because they can tell these stories and confuse Old People.  I have always been honest and paid my bill to them and now this comes up when I leave their service.

I can't even understand what they are saying since they don't speak correct English. We are on Social Security as an income and have Health Problems and they are trying to take money when it is not owed to them. I feel as if they are trying to Rip Us Off.

I hope this company will change their business practices before they lose all the people.  They need to be Honest first.  They sent us a letter wanting us to come back to them and start fresh but I don't think I would ever consider folks who try to scam  old people.  I had a credit card awhile back but we had it cancelled and I did not update my account and they are asking for a new credit card number and I said NO.

                                                             Sincerely, Martin & Helen

This is apparently normal for DriectTV!

AUTHOR: Graham WA - (USA)

I too cancelled a month ago and they promised to send me a package to return their equipment.  After two emails and several phone calls which were answeredeventually and just repeated the original statement the package never arrived.  So now accorsing to them instead of them owing me $103 I now owe them $199 for the equipment they never got back!

The thing I find strange is that at least one DirectTV engineer passes by our motel at least twice a day but asking the negineer to pop in to collect wasn't possible.  So now I'm in the process of starting legal action as I have all of their emails and phone replies stating that it was their fault and prosiming three times to send me the recovery package so I could return the equipment!

I'm sorry to say this but DirectTV are it appears the masters of bait and switch and "let's make it VERY hard for people to cancel" then try their best to invent reasons to find extra charges to milk the customer even firther because they dared to cancel!

How long have you been working for Direct TV ?

WoW it sounds like "Bash Old People Day" from your prospective. What is your problem ? How long have you worked for Direct TV? Are you Mikie or Mary ? You don't know what happens in our house. I am the person who was in the home waiting for someone for days to bring a new black box. The man did bring a box called Genie and no there is no contract for us and Yes it was Free. First of all we aren't in the habit of making up stories for fun.  I have my copies of proof and I certainly do not need you and your criticism from "The Peanut Gallery"

Thank you for showing your lack of integrity. You must have been sent out of your home as a child of 25 years of age. That would leave you with disrespect for elderly people. No one her is so old that they are ready to give up.

You don't sound as if you fought for your country.  Maybe that is why you are ready to fight "US OLD FOLKS"

I feel sorry for your answer to this complaint. Go somewhere else and put your nose into their business because we have made it without your help for many years and we can do without you in the future. You don't know your facts. Actually this is the best laugh I've had for years.

                                                                            Sincerely, Helen

Your issue...

Unfortunatly you gave away that you DID resign a new contract. The boxes ARE NOT free. For it to be "free" you agree to a new two year contract. Because YOU did a equipment upgrade that put you back into a new contract. As someone at YOUR age YOU know there is no such thing as a free lunch. EVERYTHING costs. So in THIS instance THEY are correct and you owe them for the ETF or Early Termination Fee. By switching providers YOU have incurred a ETF. Its NOT them trying to rip YOU off or to "Confuse" Old People. By upgrading your equipment you have done this to yourself. What amazes me is that someone from YOUR generation, the supposed greatest generation, cant see the forest for the trees. An dont sit there and try and play that "Im old" card. You and I both know that you are a lot smarter then you let on and are only using that as a way to make yourself look like a better victim.

It amazes me that YOU are responsible and YOU cancelled yet THEY are the scammers. How does that work exactly? YOU are wrong across the board yet THEY are the bad guys?? I thought your generation was smarter then that.
